That stuff would clear a bar down here. Any that would stay would be drinking ice water just taking up space.

hard to tell ,, ,maybe dallas, our houston might have some jazzers. But the thread was about rockin. That high brow stuff doesnt really rock.

oh good . . . lets' argue . . . . . . . .
We should invite the drummers among us to categorize which rhythms qualify as "rock", as opposed to jazz, country, R&B, etc. If you can include a very obvious country rhythm, why not a Bo Diddly beat? The harmonies of "Bo Diddy" are not rock, but then neither is yours.

I'll often say a band "rocked it" when what they played had nothing much at all to do with "rock" music.
Rock and modern country is very simple music for the most part. Jazz is quite complex,,, it doesnt rock, it swings and jives and grooves and achieves its mojo from departing from the standard format that is know as rock.

That's a rather strange description of jazz, Tim. The format of most jazz tunes is no more complex than the standard song form they interpret. It dervies its interest from the ability to expand the color palatte rhythmically, melodically and harmonically, but the format remains.
It does not derive anything from rock, although I can understand how someone who listens to rock might use it as a basis for comparison.
Country, is far simpler than jazz harmonically, yet seems determined to play "gotcha" with anyone who plays along. Talk about random progressions!
To describe something that moves you rhythmically as "rocking" or "swinging" or "smoking" is largely a matter of using the descriptive words of your preferred genre(s).

Great song... although I like Waylon's verson the best.

Good find! Definitely rocks. Although I miss something about the pulse of the bass line that the original had, maybe it was doing more octaves, had almost a disco sound or something. But I would be ecstatic if my band played it like either version- our cover's too slow, kind of lumbers along in comparison. I always thought Waylon's stuff was great to listen to but boring to play, but with a band like THAT things would be different. I'm going to show our drummer that vid and see if he takes the hint.

This thread started out so promising. But I did get a new sig out of it!

Rodney crowell wrote the song. Waylon also had a great band,, but I do think the clip i posted is a much more refined version of it , the lead guitar player is amazing. We do aint livin long like this ,, and its just one of those songs that comes across best when you drive the hell out of it and spool it up tight.
Here is another song that really rocks it when you spool it up tight and drive it hard, This video seems to drag a bit compared to the way we do it. We tend to push the tempos up on a lot of songs to extract more energy out of them.
