I'd say almost everything coming out of Sub Pop records around the time of 91-93.

i once went to a show where one of the guitarists was playing through a BV120, which sounded so bad that i actually had to leave the room for their set, because something about it was literally making me nauseous.

Oh god, the Blue Doodoo. I think there was a red one too, a Sammy Hagar signature amp. First it was "Red Voodoo", then "blue voodoo sammy hagar signature" or some crap like that. What a horrible sounding amp. Actually, original V series aside, pretty much every Crate product I've ever heard has sounded like a bag of ass.

that goddamn horrible rumbly farty burpy loose buzzy sloppy undefined mushy shit that's "rollin rollin rollin" out of Wes Borland's Recto in Limp Bizkit, as well as Munky & Head's Recto amps from Korn!

Ozzy said Randy's rig sounded like throwing water on a hot frying pan.
I think it had something to do with anti-brown sound. Randy rejected the EVH sound so many other players at the time were trying to cop.

For me, the worst amp tone I've ever heard is the rhythm guitar track on the studio version of Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train'. It sounds like Randy Rhoads is playing through some cheapass little practice combo turned up full blast with a distortion box hooked up to it. It's gotta be the fizziest and most lifeless tone I've ever heard
I've checked a few web pages outlining his gear setup, and they all claim that he played through Marshall stacks. But years ago someone told me he played through a little Roland Cube amp cranked full blast and with a distortion box on some of the early recordings. It's a crappy sound nonetheless.
The best sound Rhoads ever got is on a live EP release of 'Mr Crowley', 'You Said It All' and 'Suicide Solution'. He is definitely playing through the Marshalls on that recording. It's a real fat tone with lots of middle, just like a Marshall stack sounds when it's cranked real loud.

Randy's tone was horrid at times, but Appetite has some absolutely fantastic tones in it.
the worst tone in the last few years was Dimebag's. holy crap did it suck. cowboys from hell is absolutely terrible.
