It seems when I want to thicken and richen ( ) my low to mid gain tones I reach for the gain knob, which loses focus and well, my low gain. lol.
What do you do to keep low mid gain up front rich and sustainy? Compressors? EQ? "Boost"? No problems? This would apply to both amp, pedals and preamp/modeller.

I find a good boost thickens up overdrive tones tremendously ... try the fulltone fat boost it is amazing

Quit playing numetal, moobs.
Hey thanks for the heads up DFWjacka sssWXERDJJAZZYPuffinSTUFF. You might almost be funny if you were even close to being right, once in a while.
But keep up the effort! Probably not as fun without all your fans around to notice you. Maybe you can link to the other site for your drama b!Tch attention hore needs?
What's weird is that I'd value your opinion on the matter. But you refuse to offer it. You'd prefer to be a jack a sss beech. Ain't that some sheet. I don't get it, but hey, carry on doing whatever it is that makes you feel worthy!

EQ would be best
Yep I thoght so...but where at? I'm not locked into bands...I can sweep.
I think some discrete compression and the right EQ will do it. I'm just wondering what other people do.

It really does depend on the amp. A lot of the time, a simple full range boost will do the trick. Just make sure it doesn't boost the mids or highs too much. The extra kick in the low end will give you a bit of extra warmth and crunch without saturating the midrange.
Compressors can work too, but a lot of the time they give the impression of higher gain because of all the extra sustain, so you need to be careful with them.
Another idea is setting the amp to higher gain, then using the guitar volume to back off. That'll have the effect of giving you a thicker tone at the lower gain range, as long as you don't have a treble bleed cap in your guitar. Works very well.
