Some amp company just needs to cut the corners of putting in the tone stack, and let everyone else do it themselves with descriptions as to what different values do. Then again, if everyone followed suit, modders would be pointless.

Not a good deal at all. A good price for a JCM800 is ~1200-1500. split channels are worth less. Super Leads have gone for under 1k.

From all the Marshall tube amps, I think the JCM800 2203KK can do the best metal sound without boosting and modding.

i know what you said. however, a jmp, or any other jtm, nmv marshall with a good od, like a 808 ,ocd, etc and DIALED IN RIGHT , will lay the brootz to yer sorry ass right good.

i had a jcm 2000 TSL 100, it could not do metal, hard rock tones were great though.
The TSL can do Slayer all day long unboosted with high out put pick ups on the lead channel with the gain @ 10:00.

I guess it depends what you mean by brutal though. Its not the best amp for very modern metal but it can certainly get heavey

Vintage modern, TSL, DSL, 900 SL-X, 800. In that order. Used to have a 900 sl-x. Don't know if it's heavy enogh for your taste, but that amp had tons of gain. Got rid of it cause I wanted two seperate channels instead of the ridicilous two volume knobs.
For really chugga chugga br00talz kickass sick metal tones, I'd still look at a dozen of other amps before I'd get a Marshall though, but that's a matter of personal taste I guess. Prices for 800s, DSL/TSL, and even 900s are way out of proportion impo, you're better of spending 100 extra on some amp that's designed especially for what you're after.
I'm personally more into the Marshall tone, but I'm into lower gain sorta tones, indie rock, and "classic' british sorta overdrive or whatever.
