That does suck... is she alright?

I had a guy drive into the back passenger panel of my truck and drive off without leaving any information. It literally moved my truck six feet from where it was parked! Fortunately it was just body damage and didn't affect anything mechanical. I wish bad karma on people like that.

Yeah she's fine, just scuffed up the front of her car a bit.

I agree, people like that will get what's coming to them some day.

Yeah, those latches seem almost temperamental...

On the bright side, it did save our car once...driving through a forest on dirt roads leading to our relatives' cottage, a dead tree trunk fell across the road JUST as we were driving under it, landing on the Thule and bouncing off. It worsened an existing crack and scratched up the car and Thule a bit, but not too badly in either case.

If anything, those Thules are seriously durable. Ours as been through a ton of punishment and is still doing great (other than the latches) with the help of a bit of tape to seal the cracks in the shell.

Dude, as others have said, glad you're still in one piece!

And yeah, I think about the timing of things like that all the time ...

Re: The things that can happen to you...

today, on my way home from work my car died while idling at a light a couple miles from home.

went to crank it back up, and the starter wouldn't jive.

then i smelled fuel.

the car died because the fuel supply hose came loose from the fitting. called the wife, she came and picked me up.

went to the parts store to get the stuff to fix it, then went and fixed it. tried jumping my car in case it was the battery, it wasn't. after a bunch of diagnosing and a trip home to get my floor jack, i determined that the starter solenoid was the problem. off to the parts store to buy one, then i got the starter removed and came home because it was getting cold and i was tired of fucking with it.

now i have to install the starter in order to get to work in the morning.
