Charlie Hunter's Novax is technically speaking not an 8 string guitar, but a guitar/bass hybrid, where the two low strings are true bass strings with their own bass pickup/circuit
Charlie Hunter's been playing jazz on fan-fretted 8 strings since before djent had a name.

the difference between a 7 and 8 string is that is possible to make a 7 string have BALLS Once you go beyond that it just sounds like mushy shit

I don't really know 100% what the heck "djent" actually is. :idk: I only have a vague idea... But if Meshuggah for example is considered "djent" (and I think it is) then that IS cool music!
More Djent is played on 8 strings than cool music. More metal is played on 7 strings than jazz. You will find some exceptions.

The bass strings sounded big and clear, reminding me a bit of Michael Hedges. I probably won't be able to log in again until after work Friday, but I'll try to look around in case you post that Rush vid.

He's undoubtedly a great player, but (and I never though I'd say something like this) that was a little too repetitive. Except for the intro of the 2nd song, it sounded like the same drim track on all three videos. But he's using all the strings, and is one hella player.
edit:
All IMO, of course!
