I'm really not surprised at how much the format sucks. No "quote" shortcut = PITA.

Also that 5 minute edit a few pages back looks about 95 trillion times better.

I'm going to give it sometime before I make any judgements.  Maybe it'll get better soon.

To suggest that this site hasn't made any money for Bain Capital is very hard to swallow. Maybe it doesn't have clear and obvious ROI standing on it's own, but marketing is often like that. Shut it off and watch the revenue figures for GC, MF, and Music123...

Its an add site, they aren't supposed to run in the black. There is little income in form of add revenue. The income isn't seen on the website, its seen in income created once people visit the adds / Musician's Friend.

Advertising usually has a cost. Hence people pay you to post their adds.

So using the "runs in the red" excuse is super lame. Its more like "we want to cut back on our add spendings".

Re: Here's the Deal with the Bleep Thing. Yes It Sucks, but for More Reasons than You Might Think

In the end this smells like a corporate promotion. Someone was put in charge of adds & web. That person figured how to cut corners and save the company $xxx.xx, so they get a pat on the back and kudos from some senior shareholder. What they don't realize is that a huge knowledgebase and large majority of this community is going to dissapear. The problem is that it took this long for people to be this informed and knowledgeable on guitar gear. If that's diminished, the forum will take a plunge.

I hope for the best, but mostly I hope someone up in corporate wakes the fuck up and listens. You have to pay a few extra bucks for someone who knows how to do web design. This will save a large amout of bbullshit in the end and keep a community from quickly fizzing away.

Well, at least he admits it sucks.  Goddamn, the site mindfucked me through the eyes when I logged in tonight.

And yeah, about that "band" in the background:

Someone in another thread suggested a pretty obvious solution:
I would like to be able to have the option to turn off the language filter. Have that be userside and just default the filter to on for guest access (which is what google would be using).

Translation: Most forum members sucking hind tittie for FAR FAR too long...using the site for social media for free...and not giving a dman what they say or post, in fact demanding freedom and no consorship. Chickens came home to roost...everyone **bleep** a holy **bleep** hell of a storm....

becuase they've been able to use the site at will for years. Kindof taking advantage of it...getting used to to, then **bleep** as if they are the owners.

They ACTUAL owners and funders of site change it...Now they don't like it...and **bleep** one helluva a storm. You think HCAF contributed THAT much to the funding of this website? You think things NEVER change? You think you can get free **bleep** forever?

Oh look...we had to reset our password. Oh looky, we lost our user name and post and HCAF cred. Oh look...we don;t like the way it LOOKS. And we hate learning how to navigate a new website. Oh look...it's gone CORPORATE....we hate corps. This sucks I'm telling my mommy.

That's a good idea about having the option to turn off the language filter for each member. 8)

This opinion doesn't validate losing a wealth of user reviews.

Also the last I checked it was 2013. How much is a person supposed to be paying to use or host a web forum again? It's not as though any server ever couldn't get the job done.

Giving the forum a makeover doesn't bother me. When all the forumites who are worth reading leave to start their own forums and I'm left with youtube commercial watchers telling me to deal with it, what am I supposed to think?

Re: Here's the Deal with the Bleep Thing. Yes It Sucks, but for More Reasons than You Might Think

Hey elder...I understand some frustrations and concerns. We've been doing this a long time, made good friends and great times. As I have said before, I've been in fourms that have changed or dropped completely....a couple gut-twisting sad to lose.

I really believe that we took this site for granted. The mods and admins let us play, fight, bicker, womanize- basically fill more than half of it with off-topic and sometimes stupid and crude content. Many came here for that very reason and couldn't care less about Harmony Central as a very large community and resource.

We'de like to think we're more important than the sum. That we are the supreme rulers. But it is at LEAST...a partnership. HC and Anderton have already expressed their concerns about site dysfunction and created a place to share concerns and opinions.

It's very disappointing to see the way some members reacted. Some people that are SUPPOSED to level-headed. Leaders even? Just jump ship and lynch? Whining complaints, threats to leave. I'm just really surpirsed that such a change for the future caused all the manly men to have...shall we say, such sandy vag?

And it still remains a priviledge to be a forum member. Maybe the forum needs a good scrubbing, a new look, new cleansing new blood...call it what you want. And I stand by by statement that if you hate it SO much...make your own.

Just one simple question to Anderton or whoever is in charge of this forum:

Will you get us the old forum back or will it stay as it is now?

Because if this is what it's gonna be, I'm outta here.
