we've gone corporate

This site has never made money. The "business reasons" are to try and reduce how much it loses.

Google was VERY arbitrary and the first time they flagged us was for one of the threads (I think it was in amps) that just had pictures of pretty women. None of them were x-rated, hell, none of them were R-rated. They sent us their "guidelines" which are **bleep**. They said we couldn't run pictures of women in "sexually suggestive poses" and I wrote back that would also censor most guitar company ads. They have been totally vague. Frankly, you'll have a better and more fun time being audited by the IRS than being audited by Google.

Anderton,

I can believe that about the audit... Google's still has Russian Mob Ties, no matter what they claim it is true. .  Those guys are demons in suits!

It is a shame that they took over, there were better Meta Search than Google at the start of their craze.

That is such a wrong attitude. What you're SUPPOSED to think is that less than 24 hours after launching a complex website on a new platform that was rushed into operation because of frustration with how the previous forums were, everything is supposed to be perfect and all the change requests people have asked for will have been implemented. Also, that nothing will ever improve or change, that I'm personally responsible, and MF has daily meetings about how best to kill the site.

Please re-edit your post to have the proper attitude. :smileyhappy:

Part of me thinks this is a good move for the site.

I mean, most of us posting here use it as a neighborhood tavern.  Just BS with friends, **bleep** **bleep** up, and have fun.

Sure we post real content, but most is off topic, and in most cases not something to be proud of in a business sense.

I mean, MF needs it to generate an image, money and traffic.

How does a thread about "piping hot **bleep**", constant trolling or near pronz threads do that?

On the other hand, it really sucks because this was a great place to hang.  I enjoyed it for almost 7 years now.

(can't get my user name back, as I can't get into my old email)

It sucks even harder, because none of the other sites really appeal as much as this one.

Because the content side of Jive got 5 MILLION HITS in the last full month it was operational. There are videos that have gotten tens of thousands of views, and articles that have are about to break six digits of views. The newsletter has a higher circulation that many music magazines. Pro Reviews get hundreds of thousands of views.
THAT CONTENT IS MOST OF WHAT SUPPORTS THE FORUMS AND LETS YOU **bleep**. So, you're welcome.

LOL. So Jive was a FIASCO, or the greatest thing since sliced bread? I really dont care about anything other than is this forum is a place I want to be, or not.
In its present condition, its not a place I want to be.
I doubt I'm the only one. Good luck with your "content".

Anderton -- I appreciate all the work that has gone into this. I really do.

I think what you're seeing is a response from people who went through the v.2 debacle.

I would think the one big take-away from v.2 is that members of a community -- when they voice their opinions -- don't like being told why the change is good for them and why they should like it.

I've spent a lifetime in public affairs and I can tell you true acceptance comes from within, not from a spokesperson's arguments.

How about this... we all leave and go to a site that looks and functions like HC used to? (T-h-e-o-p-e-n-j-a-m.n-e-t)
Then MF can jerk around with this fiasco all they want. It won't matter. cuz no one will be here to see it.

The content was hosted on the Jive side even after I got MF to switch back to vBulletin, and was hosted on there until midnight last night. It sucked until the very end, but that didn't prevent people who wanted to learn techniques and tips from gracing it with millions of hits every months, or other sites from linking to the information.

Now, if you have complaints about the ARTICLES AND VIDEOS, you're talking to the right person. if you have complaints about the forum, YOU'RE NOT. Go to the feedback forum and bitch there, where the people who matter will hear you.

I am pretty sure a large part of 5 millions of hits they get was people trying to read the "user reviews" on the content site and/or getting lost trying to get there, after all, that thing was a maze.

It's typical corporate **bleep**, looking at numbers, stats etc and thinking they know what the community needs.  Meanwhile, out in the real world, Harmony Central was ALWAYS been known as a site for USER reviews and discussions.  It's sad really.

Someone should start a Site for musicians.  With a working forum and user reviews.  I think it would be quite popular.

This is not the so-called Warbleshinny mastadon. over

Anderton,
If the forum is not your job, then stop making excuses for it and go back to your articles. Then nobody will be on your case. But if you gonna come on here and make excuses for this **bleep** then bend over and take it.

Talk to me about going through the v2 debacle.

There are two reasons to voice opinions. One is to try and effect change. That is why the feedback forum exists. No one is being told they should like this, I have numerous complaints myself. The difference is that I am voicing them where it matters. If people here cared about these forums, they'd try to get the changes they want implemented. It's not hard. If they go to the feedback forum, they can make their voices heard.

The other reason to voice opinions is to let off frustrations. That's understandable, but it doesn't give the people who COULD make changes anything tangible to go on.

This idea that something is being shoved down people's throats with "take it or leave it" is half-right. The half that's right is we're committed to getting off Jive and vBulletin once and for all. That can't be changed at this point. What CAN be changed is the look, feel, and functionality of this forum, in accordance with what can be done within the constraints of this paricular platform, which are pretty open-ended.

This is calculus: first approximation, second approximation, third approximation, etc. until it ends up where it needs to be.

Well why did we evr get rid of the old review section? That was never resolved or told in a proper manner imo, SHAME SHAME SHAME on whoever made that decsion, we lost some much valuable info that its almost criminal, there should have been a way to sabe that old information somehwere, no excuse for that debacle

That old place was INVALUABLE to anyone who wanted to purshase a piece of gear --- old, new, expensive, cheap, guitar, amps, pedal, drums, etc it was all there.. well written and easy to read with WONDERFULL INSIGHTFULL HELPFULL information, why did you guys ever let that section just disapear and die is mind-numbing

I prever VBulletin over his on so many levels, from ease of use, to eye, sights configuration, etc, etc thats my 02, i wish we stayed on V bulletin or can go back if needed

Given that you never checked out the content, it's not surprising you're clueless as to how many views the articles, videos, pro reviews, etc. have received. And we're talking VIEWS FOR THOSE SPECIFIC TYPES OF CONTENT, not just hits from people clicking on the site. I'm sorry if it goes against your prejudices, but a huge number of people enjoy the content.

Also, there are NO reviews of any kind on the site right now - user reviews, pro reviews, articles, nothing. That still has to be built out and will take a few weeks. But it was decided people would rather have forums where you could actually post stuff rather than wait.

Also, HC ALWAYS had content and articles, back to when Scott was first running it. It ALWAYS served two types of users, being part magazine and part community. But you probably didn't give a crap about the content back then either, even though it got huge numbers back then as well. One of the reasons I was hired was in order to make sure that element didn't go away. It didn't. I've done my job, and I've advocated for the community and the forums.

Where it needs to be is back where it was. About 5-6 years ago this place was great. I had no issues with it. In Fact, last week was fine with me (but who am I, other than a guy who USES the site.)
