Dangers of Over Pruning

Large or Profuse Cuts Lead to Decay - Any cut made on a tree is a wound that must be healed. The fewer cuts made the better. Smaller cuts throughout the tree’s life are better than large cuts that should have been made many years ago when the tree was small. One large poorly made cut or too many cuts in the wrong places can ruin a tree for life.

Re: Harmony Central Forum Death

It's not just the amp forum that's pretty dead now on HC.  The guitar forum seems pretty dead also.  I doubt the other sections are much better.

I'll continue to check in from time to time but right now it's been completely destroyed.  Hard to believe what HC has become compared to several years ago.  MF really did a great job taking over this place.

This...more than ANYTHING I have ever wrote or read....says a lot about what the amp forum was.

What you're witnessing is not the death of HCAF. You are now witnessing most of the off-topic, Facebook posts removed. I consider it a pruning. The tree or shrub looks quite a bit less than what it was, but almost always comes back stronger and healthier.

Give it some time. This is not, nor ever has been just an amp forum. It's a total encompassing music and musicians resource. Most of the people gone just used it as their own little play ground with little regard for it's true intentions. Their departure at a crucial time for HC speaks for itself. Be patient, and you will become an HCAF elder in no time, Boss Hogggin' your way around new and blacksheep members in no time.

Is the new HC perfect? Of course not. JUST LIKE THEY TOLD US it would be. They asked us to be patient and offer suggestions...many have already been implemented. Hang in there.

Re: Harmony Central Forum Death

So, HCAF is not what it used to be. Too bad. Also, too good. Those of us who are "left in the dust" can make into something new.

Granted, the software isn't that smooth but still far better than what was used on the last iteration of HC. This site is still slow at loading but nothing nearly as bad as the old site. There's a few other software issues that beg resolution.

Nonetheless, HCAF can once again be a great place. The rules haven't changed. No one got the ban hammer. So it will become whatever is made of it. It may die out totally. It may continue it's realistic imitation of a graveyard or it may once again spring to life. Only time will tell.

Guitarampboard is great place to go and, oddly, not nearly so raucus as when those members were here at HCAF. I wish Billy and the folks there success!

But don't count HC out yet. It has high ratings and placement in the major search engines and still pulls in a lot of traffic so it's still going to be around for awhile. How good it becomes depends on those who choose to participate.

Re: Harmony Central Forum Death

LOL..I see The Clique has arrived back in full force! Not to support or grow the forum, but to attack and insult. This is the kind of mentality I am glad is (mostly) gone. If it means the Death of The Forum, then so be it.

What's funny is the jackass that first responded to me...and The Clique that came back over to join the festivities...they don't know how stupid THEY really are. Since when have I EVER csared about being popular, ruling the roost, joining the clique to make me feel special? You know it's....like...NEVER. I didn't say what I said in hopes of ME being some sort of King. I said it to encourage people to stay, and they will know more people and become more knowledgable, forge new bonds and relationships. with some sacrcams and humor, that of COURSE went right over their head in their gusto for blood.

But you see what happened. They automatically assumed I was talkiing about myself. Because, just as i suspected, that is their mentality. That's the way they think and that's what they projected.

Have I said some stupid things? SURE! Have I fucked up on occasion. Yes.  I've been very involved in this forum since at least 1999, so of course I've done SOME dumb things I was here for The First Exodus, when good people like Thump (we argued alot, but he was good peeps), Ed Degenaro, and Guitarist 17 left. They said it wouldn't make it then too. But if you suspect you don;t belive me about my own activities, go ahead and search. Youll find some dumb stuff, things you don't agree with. But it's not the basis of my involvement here. I did break the forum rules ONCE and paid for it. But you see, right here, what a different opinion gets ya?

Trying to be positive and build this forum back up. See what happens? Against their better judgement and swearing off the forum, they just can't help themselves. They dragged their sorry asses all the way back to this "pathetic" forum to get some. Sad. Funny and yet sad.

Kind of taking it a little too seriously there, bro. Too literally? Too personally?

It was just a metaphor. There's little doubt that changes were needed, but unlike EVERYONE else on the forum (apprently) I'm no IT expert, so i don't know what solutions were necessary. And there's little doubt that Admin and Mods asked for patience and suggestions, many of which have been implemented. No instead many made a mockery of it....out of spite. Could just leave but that wasn't good enough.

As I said above, there are some fundamental differences in philosophy here. I chose to remain...to be positive and help regrow the forum. Other left, swearing never to visit the shithole again. And yet...here they are. To do what? Defend themselves? Civilly? From what? For whom? Why even bother?

That to me is PLENTY of evidence. It's right there in front of you.

Re: Harmony Central Forum Death

I popped my head in here a few days ago and just now just to see if things have improved. IMHO they have not. I've never been a super contributor or anything like that. I'm just another guy who likes music and guitars.

I used to hit this site multiple times a day and spend quite a lot of time here reading through various posts. These days I simply don’t come here any more. The old forum used to be dynamic and since the change it’s lost that.   The new version has driven off the majority of the users, and it’s the users that made these forums worth visiting. The new format and the lack of contributors puts me off quite a bit.

I wonder what they would cut their nose of despite their face. Maybe they finally have the tracking software or cookies that tell the boys at corporate what kind of gear I like and what kind of advertizing to show me and what not. Hell I don’t know. I'm not a web guru.  But I do know that this site is owned by big corporate dogs who don’t give a shit about anything else but making a buck. And apparently they fucked that up too.

I don’t know where I'm going with this except to say they really fucked this place up with the changes that did and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. You've lost a lot of traffic because of it and I'm one of them.

You guys happy now? Lol.

Hi SDshirtman...

So....If I get you right, you just popped in to read other people's stuff, mainly? Like a blog? Of amps? Boobs? Beer? Hand shakes?

That's fine. It was a good resource and awseome time waster. But the guys that made it fun interacted. They didn't lurk. It's my opinion that they treated this more like a general purpose social network than musicians resource. Don't  get me wrong, off topic is good. Beers, boobs, cooking, bbq, cars, morotrcycles, farts, pie, mountain biking, shampoo, bikinis....that's all great. Lots of off-topic, but is it suitable for Harmony Central? Was it the reason they fucked it up?  I dunno.

If you want to throw up yer hands and give it up fine. But it was a little bit too lemmingly creepy for me. But then again, I never have nor never will subscribe to pop culture. So it looks different. It functions differently. It's not as convenient for social networking. Let's throw sand up our vagina and stomp off? Okay.

I say it really doesn't matter the name or the font or link and sidebar color. This is still my home for better or worse. If other people ran off because it didn't suit them anymore. fine. But be your own man. Make up your own mind. Make your own contributions. Invest yourself a little bit. If you didn't before now's a good time. People won't make fun of you...post some clips or gig pictures. If you get one positive response and 3 negatives, that's more constructive than 20 "in" replies.

Invest.
