Just a short story about a wayward Sigma DM-3. I was in Los Angeles with my family and as the girls shopped, I wandered into one of LA's many pawn shops. The store had many guitars and being a beginner, I was trying out some of them with the simple chords and strums I had learned. None sounded as good as the 1982 Yamaha acoustic that I had at home. The salesman told me his best guitar was in the back. As I waited he brought out the most beat up guitar I had ever seen. It was filthy dirty, had remnants of a sticker on it and was hacked up and banged up to no end. Then he started to play it. Oh my gosh, what an incredible sound. Everyone in the store stopped to listen. I asked him how much he wanted, thinking this beat up guitar would go cheap. He wanted $300 and would not budge an inch. I think he didn't really want to sell it. I declined and went on my way. But over the years I have not stopped thinking about this guitar and the others in the store. The Sigma DM3 must have lived quite a life and apparently was used continuously as opposed to the pristine poor sounding acoustics that hung on display. At some point I decided to begin a search for a DM3 that was in good shape. I came close on occassion but was outbid every time on ebay. Estate sale guitars and music stores around the country that had somehow aquired one. One day I will find my Sigma DM3. I just haven't met you yet.

Just so you know, I like Sigmas too, but you can get a Martin DM for not much more. I bought a Martin DM in perfect condition, with hardshell case, for $400 just a couple of years ago. You need to keep your eyes peeled and watch those Craigs List ads. Great guitars.......I'll never sell mine.

Check out the poster before Opa. I knew it!
Good job moderators!
Well, you lost me.......I don't know what you're referring to. Explain.

Ok, the new poster, with 1 post that happens to bring up a thread from 2009. It's merely to drive conversation, and the new poster above is simply a phantom newbie created by the management.
It's a good way to drive conversation, and it works obviously! Don't hate about it(not that you will), it's actually a decent topic. 'Bout time we started talking guitars and music again. There's a rich history here with thousands of on-topic posts that somehow got derailed a few years back. Maybe it's the time to change.

OK...now I know what you're talking about.
Neal........believe it or not, I knew it was a zombie thread when I made my reply. I was only responding to the poster before me who was talking about a Sigma DM3. Just thought he'd like to know that a Martin DM can be had for virtually the same money.
And, like you, I'd much rather be discussing guitars than all the other crap I've seen lately.

Don't think it's the mods doing the resurrecting, it's a regular poster.
Really, they'd both be regular if they had more than 1 post.
Not arguing, I could be wrong, but both the recent resurrecters of this 2009 thread only have 1 post. Again, not a bad thing, as a matter of fact, I find it refreshing.

My Sigma is a DM1 I think. Its an Indonesian made guitar and I have no idea what woods or laminates it is made from. I can tell you this:
It is a perfectly good sounding/playing guitar that has treated me very well. If its worth $150 I'd be surprised, but that would be money well spent by a new guitarist looking for a bargain priced instrument.

It's zombie bot's or mods digging up these old bones.
Dumb, just plain dumb and it makes me want to not be here (like I needed another reason)

I have to come to the defense of the moderating/owner team. It's not bots, it's a real human, not a regular with an alt like Poppy suggests.
I'd do the same, the conversation here has degenerated in the last few years. It's a viable forum, now a bit more PG than R, and some of those old threads are still pretty good conversation starters. I do understand that lots won't take to it, and will form an opionion that has negative conotations, but what do you do? Can't please everyone. Maybe they'll attract some guitar players that were totally turned off by the prior version, and many were.
