 Tried a bunch, gonna stick with .46mm nylon for strumming and .60mm nylon for everything else.

 I just can;t get the sound I want with thick picks, always too harsh to my ears.

Well now. I find that thin picks are harsher than thick ones, HST, when I say "thick" I'm talking about 2mm+ picks - I actually use a 3mm nylon Big Stubby most of the time - and to my ears that produces a much more mellow tone than thin nylon picks. 

Perhaps you've just tried picks of 1mm - 1.5mm thickness, Pops?
