By "perverted act with a banjo," I assume you mean playing one in public. That is a horrible thing to say, and I do not believe Poppy would ever debase himself by engaging in such despicable behavior.
Ellen, on the other hand...

It's a Fender FB-59. I use Deering heads and GHS stainless steel strings, and it's got an active Fishman humbucker in it. This is my first electrified banjo and I think I really lucked out. I've had this banjo in the shop a couple times for different things and have played some ABYSMAL rented banjos in its absence. The right pickup seems to make a pretty big difference in banjos. Plus the acoustic sound of the banjo is really balanced. Once you get over the fact it's a banjo, it's not a bad instrument. ![]()

Thank you so much Ellen !!!
My wife says she likes banjo music (weird woman), and I've played in groups that included banjo before. So, if it doesn't interfere with my guitar playing too much, I think she'll be cool with me buying one and giving it a try. But I'm not anxious to cough up the dough for a Vega Pete Seeger extra long (the only one I ever played with), so something a little more reasonable will have to do. Anyway, me thinks I need a banjo education. That ought to drive my neighbors crazy !!!
Thanks again for the info ..... ![]()

Here ya go, Paul. Get yourself one of these Deering Goodtime banjos. About $400 brand new. A young lady I know plays one of these at a bluegrass jam I used to go to all the time. Actually, I'm thinking about getting one myself. Used to have one, but sold it years ago. Now I wish I'd kept it. Might get back into it.
Here's one of my favorite banjo pickers.......mountain grown and hand spanked! Buck teeth and all!
