Sound Quality
The SD4 is Precision inspired (but with a very original design), it got a precision pup (neck)  and a jazz one.The pick ups are ok, not the best around, a change would be very beneficial to the SD4, but stock the sound is very good. The strings can be installed either classically or through the body (this requires long scale strings) and insure an incredible sustain.. I love this. The neck is a gem, closer to a JB than to a PrecisionWeight is ok (it's a real wood bass.. )
Reliability/Durability
Godin product and built like tank (I got two Godin guitars beside this bass). No problem of reliability
Price/Value
Godin products have ok price new and as the brand is very underrated they are bargains used. The SD4 can be bought for peanuts and its build quality is on par with an american bass (what it is by the way)
General Comments
The SD4 is a old (90's) bass , a very good instrument, totally unknown and therefore very underated. For half the price of a Mexican Fender a SD4 is a real american product with a very high level of build quality, great features, correct sound and very pleasant to use. There has been a 5 strings version.. the SD5
