Sound Quality
The HS model has a coil tapped hum bucker in the bridge and a single coil in the neck which covers a fair range of tones - other reviewers have pointed out the this set up was the Kobain preference for his mustangs, and while the Duo Sonic (hooked up to a Boss DS-1) will do the short scale NV sound well, it really can do a lot more besides.  Some great clean tones from that neck position and a nice growly HB at the bridge.  No plans to change out either pup at present - they are that good.
This is an entry level Fender, and my first from this manufacture, and everything is just...nicer.  From the tuners, to the feel of the neck, to the "click" of the selector switch, to the resistance in the volume and tone pots, it's all just nicer.  It feels well constructed in the same way a VW does.  I'm not expecting any issues with this instrument.  It's a step up from my previous electrics...
Looks cheap for a Fender, looks pricey if you include Epiphone, Squire etc in your search for an electric guitar.  But, but, but - you can feel the difference in the build quality and the materials used - and it arrives well set up (nearly in tune in my case), needed only a little tweak to get the intonation right on 2 of the strings.  Very little to do on this before playing.  This is a great example of getting what you pay for - it is more expensive than the Squire version (2017 Mustang), and it is better than the Squire version.
General Comments
Really glad Fender resurrected the mustang/duosonic offset range.  The short scale thing, together with thicker gauge strings, brings a fresh bag of inspiration to all the songs you already play, and spurs you out into new material.  Very happy after 4 months of ownership, not expecting any issues.
