The S-O is your basic ukulele. Solid mahogany with no frills.
The wood is an attractive, nicely grained mahogany. The body, neck, fretboard
and bridge are perfectly fit. Just what you'd expect from a Martin instrument. The
finish is a thin matte finish much like Martin's current Style-15 guitars.
I was pleasantly surprised at the loud clear tone generated by this
little instrument. I own 3 Lanikai ukes and even the one priced at
2X the Martin can't hold a candle to the S-O's tone.
This is a lightly built instrument and although well built, I doublt
if it would hold up to much abuse. I'm careful with all my instruments,
especially my Martins and don't expect any issues. I've owned a number
of Martin guitars and currently own 3 and reliability has never been a
problem.
Set up perfectly.
Although I've never had to use Martin's customer support for quality or
repair issues, they have always been very responsive to my inquiries over
the years.
An excellent quality and sounding instrument at a reasonable price.
Although made in Martin's Mexico facility, I can't see how their PA
made ukes at 6X the price could be that much better sounding.
