My setup is as follows: I put a variety of axes (squier '51, agile valkyrie, ibanez roadstar, homemade tele) into Erine Ball VP jr. volume pedal -> guyatone wr3 wah rocker -> DOD fx-82 bass compressor -> DOD fx-52 classic fuzz -> mxr phase 90 (r28 mod) -> modded Boss DS-1 distortion -> Boss BF-2 flanger -> Nobels TR-X tremolo -> ibanez DE7 delay -> ibanez BCL bi-mode chorus -> peavey classic 50 head into either a closed back 4x12 cab or an open back 2x12 cab.
I use this pedal as a booster for leads. For this purpose it does the job well. I set the volume @ 3:00, and release and compression @ 9:00. Set this way it provides a slight volume boost & fattening of my tone. I also like how it adds drive to my dirt pedals. No extra noise is present (how I set it anyways), & I can't really say how it acts as a compressor. Sounds great for my purpose, but I'm sure there's something better
Reliability/Durability:
DOD pedals have 4 major design flaws:
1) non-standard 1/8" negative adapter jack (luckilly for me I have converters for using my DOD pedals with my pedalboard's power suppply)
2) Flimsy plastic switch
3) Knob inserts fall off easily
4) battery cover is lost easily (not an issue for me since I use a power supply)
However, I must say that DOD pedals are built tough, they just really screwed up on their footswitch design. I will give this pedal credit though as it must be at least 12-14 years old, and it is still in perfect working condition. I've also never had footswitch problems with any of the DOD's i've owned, (knock on wood) but I have heard many horror stories. Also it's annoying that you have to buy adaptor pluds when using this with a power supply or some sort of daisy chain. I could also see how the battery user, could easily lose the battery cover, and have the battery connector damaged. Yet, I will repeat that I have experienced no problems
Ease of Use:
Three knobs: Volume and Compression are self explanatory, the release knob doesn't really seem to do that much (very limited range). Still it's pretty easy to use
Customer Support:
Old discontinued pedal, which I bought used. I've never needed company support, but I'm sure they don't really service these pedals anymore. they still do have all the old manuals online though
Overall Rating:
I play a mixture of punk, rock, funk, blues, and noise. I really like how this pedal performs as a boost, and that it was really inexpensive. Compared to overdrives that I've previously used as boosters (DOD od 250, Ibanez TS-9(808 mod), Boss SD-1), this sounds more transparent. If it broke ar got stolen, I would definetely get another one (if I could find one for so cheap), or possibly try a different compressor or clean boost. Like I stated earlier it performs very well for how I use it.
