I am using this in a small pedal board with a few other stomp boxes.Mid 60's Stratocaster into the Tych first, into cheap Vox Overdrive, into TS-10,into DejaVibe2,into Italian Vox wah, into early to mid-60's BF Deluxe Reverb with an EV.The pedal is really not noisy, but is sensitive to other electronic devices in it's immediate vicinity.Computer monitor for instance.May be affected by fluorescent lighting, don't know? It most definitely captures the sound"Band of Gypsys" without a doubt.Again, you just get a glimpse of how amazing Hendrix was.Not sure about the new guys, haven't heard anything. The effect is quite authentic sounding and is subtly changed by the way and what you play. is quite a bit quieter than any garden variety Fuzz or OD pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
Have not gigged with it,but it seems well made and reliable.Sturdy little box like MXR stuff.Paint job is kind of rough, but if saw my guitar you'd laugh at that cricism.Yes if I live long enough to ever gig again,I'll definitely use it without a backup.
Ease of Use:
I give the Tych 10 for ease of use. This is a sound specific pedal,in other words there are not alot of users I've heard doing innovative things with it.You begin to see some of the genius of a guy like Hendrix who makes a fairly obtuse sound very musical. Those sounds are a snap to get on Justin's pedal, two note bend combinations sound really tense.Single note stuff is more prominent in the higher registers, but it responds well all over the fretboard. This a two knob device so the parameters are somewhat limited, but the individual nuance of where you play, how hard you pick, the pick up you use make a difference in what you'll get.Sounds great with a wah after it,as well as a DejaVibe.Slowly arpegiated chords have a wild chime-like effect. You have to work with it,but it does put an interesting slant on things.
Customer Support:
Justin was great to deal with.Had cause to request some screws for the bottom plate,he responded quickly and got them right out to me. I feel confident that he would stand behind this pedal, though I doubt it will need repair.
Overall Rating:
This is a somewhat unique pedal.I think a variety of sounds are available, however, you must learn how to use it and what sounds best. This is more of a single note device, though two note combinations sound great.Chords are wild, not really useable for accompaniment, maybe for tension/sound effects. We primarily have Jimileading the way on how to use it,but there are still alot of possibilties. It is something like an unusual color one might use if they were painting. If you use it excessively it may seem less musical but use it like you would a strong spice and it will make your sound/playing more interesting.I have not tried to compare this with any of the other similar pedals out there, but hey this isn't a foot race, this is very subjective stuff to begin with.I am really happy that there guys such as Justin and numerous others making faithful recreations of great old pedals. There is probably some guitarist out there who will turn some obscure sounding pedal into a classic, but for now this remake may turn some obscure guitarist into a new classic.
