I used this pedal with my Peavey Milestone III four strings bass guitar with a Peavey Basic sixty (a beginner bassist setup). It a little noisy. No way with this noise. It changes your bass natural tone also.
I used this pedal with a FX 80... This two pedals can give you a decent sound working toghether. No more than that. I will sound just decent, you won´t sound as you want. What you want for 50$?
Reliability/Durability:
It works good, because DOD makes excellent things. But probably you won´t use it for a long time. The noise this pedal sends to your amplifier is horrible. A good thing! It comprimes the sounds too, you can get a nice compression if you needs.
Well, I used the DOD FX 42 for a year, but now I get an Ibanez BE 10 as equalizer. I prefer Ibanez so far. FX 42 is a nice beginning, but believe me, you´ll want change you sound. Not bad for a 30$ pedal, but if you can get something better, don´t doubt. Wait for a better oportunity...
Ease of Use:
Really easy... Just eight slide knobs, seven for equalization, one for level. No more for explain. Who needs an user manual for an equalizer?
Customer Support:
No. The quality of DOD´s products is great.
Overall Rating:
I play mainly funk, jazz & metal. I never used any pedals before this, I brought the FX 42 because this the cheaper way to introducing to bass guitar pedals. I have been playing with this pedal almost a year. I had a DOD FX 80 compressor/sustainer too. An another beginner´s pedal.
Well, right now, I tested another pedals, so... If somebody stole my DOD FX 42, I wouldn´t get it again (I sold this pedal a week ago...). It gave me a nice surprise when I started to play because it comprimes the signal too. I think the slides are weak.
I compares it to an Ibanez BE 10. Maybe Ibanez won´t give you the presence what DOD can give you, but the first one can gives you a cleaner sound (without noises) and won´t change your bass tones. I was looking a pedal what can do this work. Ibanez is better for me, but remember, DOD isn´t a bad choice at the beginning.
