Many other reviewers have the Blue model. I've never seen one. I bought a used black version on Ebay. It works pretty well, other than some slight crackle from the input jack. In my pedal board that goes away.
It definitely sounds better than any digital chorus I've heard. I expected a richer and fuller sound from this chorus. I have a Ross Phaser Distortion pedal, and the Phaser is the best I've ever heard. The Ross Chorus pedal is better than most other chorus pedals I've tried, but I like my EH Small Clone a lot better. The Ross Chorus and the EH Small Clone are both on my pedal board, and together they create some very rich chorus ensemble sounds.
I agree with a previous poster below, beyond the half way point the depth gives too much detune effect, which is the problem I have with most chorus pedals. I prefer a milder effect.
All in all, though I was somewhat disapointed that this pedal doesn't live up to the hype, I am at least pleased with it. I play it through a 1971 Les Paul Custom into a Fender Twin or Fender Bandmaster.
I still prefer the EH Small Clone over this pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
It lasted this long, but who knows. I live in New Orleans and have asked several good electronics tech's about fixing this pedal if it breaks. They all told me the parts are almost impossible to find, and schematics would help. There aren't a lot of these pedals around.
Anything this old is a crap shoot - nothing lasts forever.
Ease of Use:
Two knobs, Rate and Depth.
Customer Support:
They went out of business many years ago.
Overall Rating:
One of the better analog chorus pedals made, but I don't feel it lives up to the hype everyone has for it. For the price you have to pay for some of these on Ebay you can buy a good new boutique analog pedal with a warranty. And the boutique models I've heard sound better.
Don't get me wrong, this pedals sounds good, but so do a lot of other analog chorus pedals, many sound better for the price you may have to shell out. I've seen these go for $200.00 and more on Ebay and Craigslist. That's a lot of money for a used pedal that you have to guess about it's remaining life. If you have to shell out more cash to get it repaired, if that is even possible, you may as well buy a new boutique pedal - with warranty.
I like Ross pedals, I bought several back in the 80's when they were new and they still work very well. I got this chorus on Ebay recently. I just don't understand why everyone thinks they are better than they really are - and for the price. Oh, well
I've always wondered why a company that made a decent product folded? Maybe because they started to cut corners and produced inferior pedals made in Taiwan that didn't stand up to the quality customers had come to expect from Ross.
The original pedals were great. The reissues, like the black chorus I've got rather than the blue one; like the all white version of the Phaser Distortion as opposed to the original purple one; like the black Flanger as opposed to the original red one.
