I am running this through a foxrox octron, voodoo labs sparkle drive, mxr carbon copy and a boss dd-6 delay. I play a schecter Ultra III into a fender deluxe reverb. The pedal is not noisy - very clean sounding. The effect can be subtle or over the top depending on how you set it.
Reliability/Durability:
So far it seems very reliable. Feels sturdy.
Ease of Use:
Super easy to get a great sound out of this pedal. The small stone is already a great pedal. Very smooth and organic sounding phaser pedal. There is one knob and a color switch - even with the small number of controls it's a very versatile pedal
Customer Support:
Mike at analogman is great
Overall Rating:
I have a vintage small stone - there is a noticeable volume drop when engaged, especially at gig volume. With the volume drop mod there is no drop. I also had the power supply mod put on there - so I can use the standard boss-type power adapter on it. Overall, with the mods, this has to be the perfect phaser pedal. It can do so much, it's relatively inexpensive and, well, just works and sounds great. I wish it had a way to adjust the rate with an expression pedal. But that is really no biggie. This is one of those pedals that inspires one to come up with musical ideas. I love it

Analog Mike makes this gig worthy. In addition to fixing the volume, I can do Grateful Dead and Van Halen with this. Stop laughing...it's happened.
Reliability/Durability:
It's reliable
Ease of Use:
easy
Customer Support:
I put this in the mail on Saturday and got it back on Thursday. That's insane.
Overall Rating:
I got this used for $40, sent it to Mike and am totally happy. I play everything but metal. Fyi, all my guitars have p-90s, I play Fender amps and pro mod pedals. This rocks.

My signal path goes as follows: Fender Standard Stratocaster > Boss TU-2 tuner > Dunlop 535Q wah > Fender Hot Rod Deluxe [Effects loop: Analogman EHX Small Stone phase shifter > EHX Small Clone chorus > Keeley Boss TR-2 tremolo > TC Nova Delay] The Analogman mod turns this quality analog phaser into a beast. There is NO volume drop when the effect is engaged and it does not color your tone when it is off. It is true bypass and the effect allows your guitar's natural tone to come through. It is very transparent. At slow speeds, you can get warm David Gilmour-like textures. At the middle range of the rate, you can approximate tones from Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower. Remember that the Uni-Vibe that Gilmour, Hendrix, Trower, and SRV used may have been intended to be a rotating speaker simulator, but in reality actually worked as a phased chorus. This phaser doesn't nail the Hendrix tone, but has that "vibe." Combine this phaser with some overdrive and you can get a jet plane effect that is used by John Frusciante among others. Use this phaser with some overdrive or fuzz and a wah and you are getting funky like Ernie Isley. At very high speeds, this phaser delivers an underwater warble. This may or may not be useful for your application, but it is cool sound nonetheless. Analog Mike made this pedal the best and most affordable phaser available on the market today.
Reliability/Durability:
I've had no problems with this unit.
Ease of Use:
Operation is straightforward. There is one rate knob and a color switch.
Customer Support:
I ordered this pedal direct from buyanalogman.com. Service was quick and responsive.
Overall Rating:
I do gigs or church services about 2-4 times a month. Therefore, my guitar playing covers a wide range of styles. For church worship services, I play contemporary Christian and gospel music. Admittedly, there is not much use of phasing (yet) in Christian music, but this phaser is useful in my side gigs since on my own time. I'm schooled in blues, rock, jazz, and funk. The other products I examined were the Cusack Tap-a-Phase and the Fulltone Deja-Vibe. Those are great but expensive pedals. The Fulltone Deja-Vibe was enticing, but I figured I'm okay with approximating the great sounds of the '60s and '70s with the Analogman Small Stone. For $109, this can't be beat. Excellent value.

i always liked, what a small stone does. for me it's the nicest, wildest, and most usable phasing i know. other phasers sound a bit like a toy, when i compare them with a small stone. the original model (i have several old ones) has the annoying volume drop when switched in. and i always wished i could use the upper position of the toneswitch (i think it's the nicer sound), but with a slightly less extreme "whoosh". so, that's exactly what analog man did: cure the volume drop problem and add a second trimmer to finetune the depth of the upper toneswitch-sound. THANK YOU ANALOG MAN! the only thing, i'm not crazy about, is the headroom of the phaser. i like to put the phaser after boost, dirt and delay, and the small stone can't handle too much extra input. that happens with most phasers, but a mxr phase100 for example, does this a tad better.
Reliability/Durability:
i had problems with wires coming loose on my old small stones. when you open the phaser (changing a battery or pushing back a sunken in led...) the construction feels a bit unstable, but that's the case with all EHX effect - at least the ones i encountered. they seem always easy to get fixed. once it's securely attached to a pedalboard, i can depend on it.
Ease of Use:
one knob, one switch=easy.
Customer Support:
they were helpful and fast in responding to my emails.
Overall Rating:
in my opinion, this is the best (small stone) phaser you can buy. even with those great mods, it's still cheap. and it looks great too....

Beautiful, just beautiful. Lush, swirly, ethereal. The pedal I've been looking for. Mike's mod keeps the volume the same when you kick in the effect. Color switch down for more subtle; switch up for full-on phasing heaven. I look cranking my Little Big Muff with this for maximum shoegazing.
Reliability/Durability:
Only just got it, but I've had a Holy Grail for a year with no problems.
Ease of Use:
As ever with Electro-Harmonix, less is more: the sound of the pedal is great, so there's no need for too much variance in the controls. Just rate knob and color switch. With modulation effects it's common to find a depth control in addition to rate, which is a minor quibble, but I don't miss the depth control as the sound of the pedal is so good.

Want a phaser, get this. I make instrumental guitar music, and this sits nicely with my sound: Fender Jazzmaster > Boss DS-1 Distortion > EH Little Big Muff > Boss TR-2 Tremolo > Boss BF-2 Flanger > EH Small Stone > Boss DD-3 Digital Delay > Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeller/Loop Sampler > EH Holy Grail Reverb > Marshall 80W Valvestate
