Sound Quality:
Very clean, w/o distortion. Variable from 0 to Unity Gain, to +20db Boost (with the Boost Knob). Linear volume control, and noiseless throughout footpedal travel.
Reliability/Durability:
Works great, very dependable, solid unit, well made. Optical design eliminates need to replace scratchy pots.
Ease of Use:
Pretty straight-forward: A volume pedal utilizing an 'optical eye' Hall Effect (instead of using a potentiometer, similar to some Morley pedals) to vary the volume from zero to full, with a variable buffered preamp (unity gain to +20db boost).
Customer Support:
No longer manufactured. Boss is kinda lame regarding support - they offer no end-user schematics. In fact, they insist a schematic no longer exists. However, for $35 they'll accept the pedal for repair(!?!). I acquired a copy of the schematic through a web-source.
Overall Rating:
This is the best volume pedal I've used, now that it's been mod'd. I've used PV-1s for El.Guitar and Bass, but prefer it for El.Flattop. It's quiet, has a nice travel, the buffer works great, and the boost is available to even-out differing instrument output levels (particularly if running a preamped pickup that lacks a volume control). Tough to beat!
