CE-2 Speedy mod

a friend of mine who had two of them, he was kind enough to share great equipment with me!

Sound Quality:
Simply the best chorus pedal! I always wanted to have the CE-1 which is the pedal who started it all, but...500$ is too expensive. This pedal nails the CE-1 perfectly. Once, I tried a stock CE-2 and sounded very thin, a big lack of prescence and thin effect made me go with the Small Clone. The Small Clone had to go one year ago and I needed a pro sounding chorus pedal. A friend of mine offered me this CE-2 Keeley Modded and I just fell in love with the effect immediately! The sound is pristine quality, very serious job from Robert. Quite and sexy sounding. I always wanted to get John Frusciante¿¿s chorus sound in BloodSugarSexMagik and finally I got it. Also, the switch is the quitest switch I ever stomped on in a Boss pedal ever!!!!!!! If not the best, Im sure it belongs in the top 5 choruses.
Reliability/Durability:
cliche answer: It¿¿s a Boss. Now that Keeley got his hands inside of it, maybe it will last two lives instead of the single life a stock Boss pedal will last.
Ease of Use:
Just two knobs. I use the original knobs and removed Keeley¿¿s since I like the old school looking of the pedal. Very easy to set and control. The greatest things are also the simpliest things.
Customer Support:
Didn¿¿t deal with them, I bought it used, but the guy who sold the pedal to me said this guys are awesomely kind and they know what they are doing.
Overall Rating:
Perfect match for my needs. Not just the effect, but very easy to set and control so it makes it even better. You can match any chorus sound ever (unless you want to match sterile digital choruses). The best part is that because of its versatility, I can also get my own chorus sound without having to copy anyonelses` sound. Rate at 11 o¿¿clock and Depth at 1 o¿¿clock and I can play with it for hours. I just cant turn the damn thing off!!!!!!!!!

CE-2 Speedy mod

I liked the sound of the CE-2 before, but I wanted to be able to do the faux Leslie sound, as the rate on the stock pedal wasn't fast enough, and my attempts to tweak the inside knob were disastrous.  After the mod it goes much faster, actually sounds like a cross between the stock CE-2 and the Ibanez CE-9 due to the more "shimmery" sound it now has as well as the faster speed. Very clean sounding (I actually liked some of the clutter of the stock sound) but not glassy, more transparent and plays very well with other effects. Turn everything up and it's space alien shootout time!!!
Reliability/Durability:
ummmmm...yeah!
Ease of Use:
Simple-two dials, yet with the mod there is more flexibility and more shaping options.  The depth control becomes more important with the mod, and works best straight up.  The rate goes slower and faster than on the stock version, which was my pre-mod beef with the unit, so a little time with the unit is suggested to get used to the larger widths.
Customer Support:
I called one afternoon and got RK on the line.  There were some questions and concerns I had about the mod, which he answered and refuted.  Then Robert started asking me about what gear I used, what I liked to play-"geartalk." He's a good man who believes in his product and cares about his clients.
Overall Rating:
I play electric and acoustic guitars through tube amps in many styles and have a large pedalboard, though I'm just as likely to not use the pedals.  I have recently put away my dislike of chorus pedals and gotten re-acquainted with their charms.  I use it for accents as well as the Scofield-esque fake Leslie/Vibe sound and occasionally as a featured color.  The Keeley CE-2 mod gives one the best features of Boss, Ibanez and EH chorus pedals and is worth having done if your picky about this effect.

A great chorus sound before the mod, but it now is a lot 'juicier' and any background noise is gone.  Very 'Andy Summers - Police, Dean Deleo STP, CE-1 sounding' but now has a rate as fast as an EH clone.  It's a Taiwan version and I have found out that it has the EXACT same circuit as the Japan version, the only difference is that the white internal trim pots were set differently (just turn it clockwise until there is no chorus effect, then slowly turn it anticlockwise until you can hear the chorus kick in, this is it at maximum 'chorus'.
Reliability/Durability:
Boss pedal have never broke on me or caused problems at all.
Ease of Use:
Too easy, only 2 knobs + on or off!  I mostly set it at just before 9 o'clock/rate and just before 3 o'clock/depth.
Customer Support:
I know a lot of people have only said good things about Keeley and co. but now I know why!  Every time I have dealt with this company it has been the most positive 'shopping' experience I've ever had.  Even giving a '10' seems a bit low!
Overall Rating:
The best chorus I've heard after the mod and now there is no point in buying any others.  Another great chorus sound can be found on an original Digitech Whammy, but it's not great with chords and after hearing the Keeley CE-2, it's all that I want from a chorus pedal.

CE-2 Speedy mod

Wow, I'm kinda stuck here.  I've A/B'ed this thing with the TC Electronics SCF, an Ibanez CS-505, and an MXR 134 (the new model), plus a few others that just aren't in the running.  I did not, however, get to compare this to the Analogman Clone Chorus - so I can't comment in that regard.  This modded chorus sounds fantastic.  It's somewhere in between the TC and the CS-505.  The Keely CE-2 and the MXR 134 are neck and neck.  For ease of use, pedal size, and the 9V/18V dilemma of the MXR 134, I'd go for the Keeley CE-2.  I have to give it a 10.  All the frequencies are there when you step on the pedal.  No mush, no hi-cut, no funny stuff, no ridiculous signal boost.  There is a very slight boost - about 1 or 2 dB maybe.  The sound of the guitar is there along with a beautiful, rich, thick chorus.  I can't ask for much more, except maybe a record deal (where you don't owe the record company your soul) and an island in the Carribean.
Reliability/Durability:
Looks pretty solid, it's a Boss pedal to start with, and Robert Keeley's work is dynamite.  So yea, I'd use it without a backup...and I have been, too.
Ease of Use:
Pretty durn easy.  Two knobs, a DC power plug (or battery), then step on it.  Extremely easy to get a great sound out of it.  That's not always the case with some pedals, even with just a couple of knobs.
Customer Support:
The best.  I called a few times, once before ordering the CE-2 mod, and then a couple more times before ordering the TS-808 mod plus.  Always helpful, and received great advice about which TS-9/TS808 mod I'd probably like the most.  They were right.  Thanks guys!
Overall Rating:
The CE-2 Speedy mod fits with just about any style I need to play.  I can't say I really use the super fast speed this pedal can do, but it's there if I want to get spastic.  I've been playing for about 25 years or so.  I own a ton of other gear - amps, stomp boxes, guitars - from cheapo stuff to expensive boutique gear.  They all have a place/sound in what I do.  I compared it to several other chorus pedals (listed in sound quality), and it kicked some butt.  I'm getting another CE-2 mod, the HI-Fi type this time so I can have a little better control of the slow to medium speed chorus sounds.  The only real problem here is finding a CE-2 pedal to send to Keeley and Company.  Luckily, they're showing up on eBay often enough.

I have used this pedal with a Strat and a 335 and with both tube and solid state amps and like it with each combination of rigs. What makes this mod so great is that Keeley takes an already half-way decent sounding chorus pedal and turns into into a much more organic and warm sound. It integrates and enhances the the natural tone of my guitar and amp, whereas the stock CE-2 kind of covered up and dominated the tone. Also the Speedy mod adds an extra dimension not offered by the stock pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
Keeley backs up his work with a lifetime garuntee!
Ease of Use:
self-explanitory, highly in-depth description at the Keely website
Customer Support:
very cool -  great website! Tons of useful info on the website about pedals and deliverd in a clear and helpful way.
Overall Rating:
This is a great way to get a lush chorus in a stompbox sized package!!If you already own a CE-2 you should really take advantage of the reasonably priced upgrade!  I would defintely have a CE-2 modded again by Keeley if I ever lost this one, and I defintely intend to pick up a few more Keeley modded products..
