I use this as a pre-distortion EQ. So my chain goes guitar->GE-7 Sniper->Bad Monkey->Weeping Demon->Rivera Knucklehead->Effects Loop Out->Tuner->Danelectro Chorus->Dan-Echo->Morley Volume->Effects Loop Return. Before I modded this pedal I would have rated it about a 6 because it's usable in a jam situation but much too hissy for a live or studio application. After the mod, I have to rate it a 10 because it is now very quiet and can be used in any application. Pre-distortion EQ is essential in dialing in good tones and this little pedal with the mod works perfectly for this.

Ease of Use:
It's an EQ, pretty simple.

Very good pedal. It took me about 2 hours to do the mod. Mainly because I had a hard time getting the solder off with the solder braid before I figured out that it works better if you stretch the braid out a little bit beforehand. The instructions were easy to follow and I didn't have any problems at all. I got a little bit of a scare when I was done, I plugged the pedal in and turned my amp on and no sound. I then realized that one of my patch cables had come loose from another pedal, plugged it back in and everything worked like a charm.

Sounds amazing with the mod. Much less noise...much more "fluid" and "musical" sounding. Much thicker and less digital sounding...I love it!
Reliability/Durability:
Just did the mod (and I'm not all that smart or good with a soldering iron!) so we'll see how my work holds up...
Ease of Use:
It's an eq...not all that difficult...but it can be hard to get a good sound on (pre-mod) - since the mod, it sounds significantly better and more musical
Customer Support:
Kevin is great! Got the mod kit from eBay and he shipped fast and the directions were pretty easy to follow.
Overall Rating:
This pedal used to sound alright (I'd put it at an 8 out of 10). Since the Sniper Mod, it's a 10. Easy to use, less noise, better sounding. Sweet!

Wow.... it's been said already. The best Eq on the market comes from the hands of Kevin. I have two of these. I keep one in the studio I work out of, and the other on my board. You can jack up anyone of the faders, and it will still sound great. There sooo many benefits and uses: A. Great booster pedal. Great for solos, try dialing in a good middy boost on a stock pedal... see how much it "helps". The Sniper Mod really allows this thing to work it's magic. B. Line Driver... I love the way people look at me when I tell them I run 16 pedals in my chain... they get a look at my board and say "how the hell do you keep your noise down, and your signal so clear?" They always skip over the little black box with the blue light when they try to figure out what it is. C. Most amps have a signature sound to them. Marhshall sounds like a Marshall, a Mesa, will like a Mesa... This pedal will give you an oppurtunity to make your own sound... the sound in your head, that you can never get from most amps. THIS is the best part of this pedal. D. Great studio tool. When we can't get something to sit right in the mix... we plug this baby in and notch out some stuff... or use some low end to fill something out. Great for RE-AMPING. All around the best stompbox style EQ... ballsy, clean, punchy. The pedal gets the BEST SUPPORTING STOMPBOX AWARD ... because my sound would suck balls without it.
Reliability/Durability:
I don't know that I have ever seen a broken Boss pedal in person. Kinda makes you think.
Ease of Use:
Any EQ takes time to get used to. I give it a 9 because it's much easier to get a good sound then the stock version.
Customer Support:
Kevin is the man... he's quick to back, helpful and great person. He will help you out with whatever you need. He is even willing to try custom mods.
Overall Rating:
Bottom Line... if something is missing in your sound, and you can't put your finger on it, get a used GE-7 of ebay or HC, send it to Kevin, and start thinking about what you want to do with your rig. You will have a hard time remembering how you got by without this pedal mod.

GE-7 Sniper EQ

Well.....here it gets serious. I had the stock GE7 in my setup, and while i enjoyed the ability to alter the tone, i found it made everything a bit duller and flatter. If you tried to boost the signal level, there was a little hissiness appeared, which got worse the more you boosted each slider. Cutting the frequencies seemed to lose tone overall. With the Sniper mod, everything improves.... Suddenly the hissiness is gone, you can boost levels and they still sound tight and clean. Changing the sliders actually alters the tone without the "mudiness" that the stock GE7 seems to cause. The differences are minimal on their own, but combined it becomes really noticeable. I want more.............. I would love to have 3 of these in my setup. Already, people have pointed out that there is more bite to my tone than before, and the only change is the Sniper mod.
Reliability/Durability:
Well, my old GE7 pedal was about 15 years old, and even though it was scratchy, it worked fine. I imagine that the new modded pedal will be just as sturdy.
Ease of Use:
To be honest, i never find an EQ a particularly easy pedal to use. I tend to arrange it into a "shape" using the sliders that i think will work. Currently i have this in a shallow U shape, which seems to be pretty good. This has nothing to do with the "Sniper" mod, more an EQ think in general. OBviously this mod does not affect the standard features of the GE7, though it does seem to add a little extra range to the cut/boost of the sliders. This might be because of teh increased clarity rather than any actual gain difference.
Customer Support:
Kevin was quick to respond to emails, and friendly from the start of the transaction right through. I would deal with them again in a second, and am delighted with the service overall.
Overall Rating:
The Sniper mod is a fantastic upgrade to the stock GE7. This is a great pedal made better. All of the faults that i had with the stock pedal disappeared after getting a new, modded pedal from Kevin. It is cleaner, sharper, more "defined", puchier and better quality all round. As mentioned, the differences are all pretty small on their own, but combined, they really stand out, and make this probably the most beneficial upgrade option for any pedal on the market. Try it and love it. Joe
