Here is where I'm going to create some controversy. I did not like the resulting sound after the pedal was modded. It seemed stale and lifeless, boomy and flat. Yes, it worked fine with my standard AC adaptor. Yes, the headroom issue was gone. But so was the lightness, the tone, the soul that made the CE-2 worth owning. In short, I was not happy with the modded sound, and I preferred the original. It sounded like a watered-down version of the Analogman Clone chorus. I compared this to an Analogman Clone chorus...and it was no contest. Even though I think that the Analogman Chorus eats your original tone too much (because that's what the EHX it's based on does), I'd much rather have that my board. Shame I sold it. Anyways, I actually found out the REAL answer to my problem: get an Ibanez BC-9, and only use the right side! It's the same tone as a CE-2, but with more headroom, and it works off of a standard AC adaptor. Except that the BC-9 I got just crapped out on me and now it's in the shop, we'll see what happens with that....
Reliability/Durability:
I would have depended on this if I had liked the sound. I understand Robert's commitment to stand behind his work is fantastic.
Ease of Use:
Two knobs, even after the mod...no biggie here. Much easier to use with distortion than stock.
Customer Support:
Robert and company were highly professional and I would recommend dealing with them if you like the sound of their products. I would consider buying other mods/products from them because of their excellent service.
Overall Rating:
I sold this on eBay within a week due to the limitations I perceived when I started to use it. I would not purchase this mod again, and I regret selling my AnalogMan Clone chorus to get this one. Wish it could have fixed the inherent CE-2 issues without sanitizing the sound. In short, it got in the way. Sorry to be a dissenter here--and by the way, I play loud rock with humbuckers--but I think a balance of opinions can help people make better decisions.

I have 2 guitars I primarily use for my gigs. one is an SC-3 by G&L that is equipped with 3 fender lace sensor single coils. The other is a brand new Fender Showmaster that has 2 Seymour Duncan HB's. I play them through a Fender 4x10 Deville. I only had my CE-2 one day before I sent it off to RK for the HI-FI mod. That was long enough to get familiar with it's original tone (which was great) and still appreciate the new tone (which is even better). The pedal is now( I know you've heard this before)much clearer and richer. Everything you'd expect high fidelity to be. To call this an effect is an understatement. This pedal is now a raw element for my tone. An effect is something "I add to" or "take away from" my tone depending on the song. This pedal will always be on in some capacity or another. It adds richness to my chords and thickens my leads.
Reliability/Durability:
I own other Keeley products and other Boss products as well. I have never had problems with either. I Would gig without a back up. It's a Boss modified by Keeley...nuff said.
Ease of Use:
1) Turn it on 2) Adjust knobs 3) Enjoy!
Customer Support:
Good ol' boys from Oklahoma. Very helpful and responsive to all of my questions and comments. It's been a pleasure.
Overall Rating:
I've been playing for 15yrs, mostly classic rock and blues. But I will play anything if I like the way it sounds and can technicaly acomplish it. Like I said before, this pedal will always be on and I can work it into anything I play. I love what it has done for my tone. If you are tone conscious, you have got to try it.

Boss CE-2 Hi-Fi Mod

I've got one of the early Japanese models with the metal screw and I thought it sounded good when I first got it from a "friend" in a trade/steal. After the mod I must say that it is even better. It always sounded good clean and pretty good with overdrive. Now it sounds great with clean and awesome with overdrive. Turning it on is like dropping my amp down into the ocean it's so wet. The "wetness" factor also is a little thicker and deeper than I remember...(see reliability and customer service) The extra fast speed is a little much when it is maxed out and I don't forsee much of a use for that (normal setting is at 8-9, leslie setting is at just past halfway...that leaves a lot of room left to get crazy) however, the alien space ship sounds are cool enough to find a use for them at least once a gig...if for nothing else to annoy someone out there with its crazy warbling.
Reliability/Durability:
I thought Boss lasted forever, however, I've come to realize and silly oversite...the casings will last forever, the connections and circuitry might need a little help along the way. It did last about 22 years before it bit it for a while. Robert repaired it...then modded it for an extra $15. I have no backup so I will either have chorus or I won't, but if Robert's customer service and the sound quality of this pedal are any indication to the quality of the connection work he did...then it should last at least another 22 years before it needs another checkup.
Ease of Use:
2 knobs, albeit one of them is quite a bit more potent now...still it's pretty easy...especially since this pedal hasn't been made for 20 years and most everyone who gets this mod is already pretty familiar with it.
Customer Support:
I e-mailed Robert inquiring whether or not he could fix my pedal and then speedy mod it...I got a response within 15 minutes stating that he could. Is there such a thing as too fast? On top of that he was friendly and helpful. Oh yeah, I sent the pedal on Friday...got it back the next Friday, just in time for a gig.
Overall Rating:
I was happy with my CE-2, then I wasn't, now I'm ecstatic about my CE-2. Been playing for 11 years and this is better than when I thought I had IT. Deeling with Keeley was great...prompt and friendly service...if I ever start using overdrive pedals I'll be sure to give Keeley some more business, but as it stands now I have nothing that he mod for me :(. Oh, and let's not forget the freakin' cool as hell Blue Light!!! You need sunglasses to look directly at the thing...makes all of my red light pedals look weak...or off.
