Excellent sound quality. For bass try "shallow" and a "4.4" setting for freq. knob-which cuts/notches around 1000hz. This pedal then slightly boosts all freqs. at the same level to maintain your instruments character and give a better sound.
Reliability/Durability:
Has not failed and looks to be very sturdy. Battery last a long time
Ease of Use:
Three knobs settings shallow, deep, and flat. Then freq. setting.
Customer Support:
Have not had to call them for service.
Overall Rating:
Been playing bass for over 17 years and this is one of my favorite effects. Only thing I wish they had put is a marker 5 for middle knob position. Not a big deal. I found out later that Alleva-Coppolo's pre-amp also cuts around 1000hz. This setting does sound good to more than my ears.

I use it with my passive Yamaha BBN5II bass. It ads punch and cuts some unwanted frequncies, or even ads some wanted frequncies. It's dead quiet, no noise and always sounds great. I can get really close to the sound of Nathan East and Vitor Wooten plus I use it when playing harmonics - it makes them shine. It makes my passive bass sound much better, but it takes away a bit of dynamics of the passive tone. I feel like I've added a bit of compression when I use it. It's like I can't do as much dynamically as I can, when going straight in to the amp. It's good in the studio, but may not always work for me in live situation.
Reliability/Durability:
Built like a tank, and a good mirror.:) It runs long time with the battery, so it is no problem for me.
Ease of Use:
It is very easy to use. Just 3 knobs, volume and two for the tone. As it is said - "Just use your ears". No manual, and I don't need one.
Customer Support:
Never used
Overall Rating:
I got it realy cheap with a minimal use. In Latvia (Nord Europe) it costs about 90$ in the shop. There is no style limitation, it deas what it deas and thats it. The only bad thing that I've hurd is that it is not working so well with active basses. I've never tried to use it with other instruments or vocals either. I would run to get it again, if it was lost, even for 100$! This little box makes my bass sound as a much more expensive instrument, and that's a good thing for 40$, isn't it?

Again, so many before me have said it - the effect on tone [of my bass(es) in this case] is nothing short of astonishing. The unit is deceptively simple. It only does one little thing, but it's the absolute right thing!
Reliability/Durability:
Been using it a lot for almost 2 years - no problems so far. Guess I'm a pretty good solderer.
Ease of Use:
I must agree with all who have praised this unit for its ease of use. The functionality simply couldn't be better. I'm giving it an 8, though, for one annoying feature ( or lack thereof) - no jack for 9 volt transformer plug in. I actually cut off the battery clip and soldered in a jack, though I don't necessarily recommend this - it voids the warranty, of course. You could probably acheive the same effect with a prefabricated or homemade battery clip adaptor. But I wanted a rock-solid connection, and knew I'd never want to use a battery, so I performed surgery. (If you do attempt this, make sure you get the polarity correct - the center of the jack is negative.)
Customer Support:
N/A - like I said, I voided the warranty.
Overall Rating:
Outstanding. I play a variety of styles - mellow to aggresive, on a variety of instruments - fretted and fretles, round and flat wound strings, and I use this with all of them. The reason, I think, is because it's not an "effect" box, per se. It simply adds punchy presence exactly where you need it. Always appropriate! Again, would have got a ten, but...ADD A 9 VOLT JACK, YAMAHA!

I use it right after my BTB555 with an onboard 3-band EQ including a parametric-Mid-knob. from the NE-1 the Signal runs through a Boss GEB-1 EQ, the Sansamp RBI and is amplified by a Yamaha P5000 for a SWR and a Hughes 410"-Speaker. Noisy? No all good The EQ works well and does what what you want it to. This is, in my opinion, the EQ to make your Signal perfect. It sounds fabolous and can do whatever you want it to. I love it!
Reliability/Durability:
never let me down, all good
Ease of Use:
At first I thougtht the "Gain"-knob would boost or cut the dialed Frequency but the amount of cutting is set with "Q". Once you figured that out that Gain is normal Signalgain and that this unit is just able to cut the dialed Frequency its easy to use. The ease that results from the (only) three knobs makes it easy to dial in the desired sound. Since there's no "Features"-Topic I'll write it here: I miss the Socket to use this unit without battery. I had to build something by myself to run it without these annoing batteries.
Customer Support:
Never had to call them.
Overall Rating:
Great unit to complete your Sound. I never used it alone(without my other Preamp-units) but I think it's nothing to start a setup with. But overall: GREAT!!!! If you have a setup that doesn't completely satisfy you try this unit and you will never want to play without it again! HOTHOTHOT! Buy it!
