I have a good les paul copy and a 100w marshall... err and as a fan of DOD pedals, i have a few of them. I tend to get two of the ones i really like... so i have two of these, work it out sherlock. They are both identical, cosmetically, but soundwise one is 10/10 (nice n' fat tone) the other 7.5/10 (a bit thinner/trebly tone). I don't know why this is, i guess they were changing components all the time, plus components can age differently. I'm reviewing the second one here.
Reliability/Durability:
It's dependable so far.
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use, no prescence control or anyother tone knobs to fiddle with.
Customer Support:
nope.
Overall Rating:
I think that there is a certain amount of interest in these because they are supposed to be the same circuit as a dod 250... but, it's a bit of a gamble between getting a 7.5/10 or a 10/10. I use this pedal when i don't want higher gain sounds, and when i want a more natural bluesy sound without too much grunge. I'd kinda say the 10/10 is prob identical to a fatter old grey 250 and the other one closer to what the regular yellow 250's sound like.

I bought this to add a little foot-controlled crunch to my Vox Valvetronix amp when I play Hendrix songs.  The channel switching on the amp was screwy, so switching from a class A model (Vox) to a class A/B model (Bassman) caused a loud pop.  Initially, the tone was a little ragged and fuzzy, but still good.  I opened up the circuit and added a small low-pass capacitor before the volume knob to tame the highs and an extra diode to the clipping stage to get asymmetrical clipping.  These two simple changes made a big improvement and now the pedal sounds very balanced and natural, to the point that it doesn't sound like the chorus of a grunge song when I turn it on.  The asymmetrical clipping also helps tame the fuzz and also boosts the output a little.  With my '67 Fender Duo-Sonic, I can get a great Axis-era Hendrix tone and even crank the distortion to get some brash fuzzyness.
Reliability/Durability:
This is my second unit. I bought the first years ago as a solo boost because it was the cheapest in the store.  I was quite fond of it for about 4 years until it spat blue sparks one day.  A year later, I finally got a new (25 year old) one!  They are a little delicate (especially the switch), but they hold up alright.
Ease of Use:
Very easy - no tone or anything.  Just volume and distortion; very transparent so you can control the sound from the guitar (like yr supposed to!).
Customer Support:
Manual on the site, and you can order replacement switches for 16 cents each.
Overall Rating:
This is my favorite box and I'm glad to have it again.  I've been playing for twelve years and owned dozens of great pedals, some of which I built myself, and I keep coming back to this one.  It has much more character then the comparable BOSS boxes and is much more transparent.  I'd certainly keep buying it.

Man, I don't know if its a model to model issue or if most guitar players are retards.  You have got to be kidding me.  Push a nice tube amp with this sucker.  This is the best $30 you will ever spend on an overdrive unit, certainly for the price you will not find better (although I heard the Juice Box rocks).  I own the Gray 250 and have owned the Yellow reissue, this thing rocks.  I can ape the Gray 250 sounds pretty damn well, my Gray 250 seems to run a tad hotter than the FX50 so I just need to crank the knobs a little more on the FX50.  I got rid of the Yellow 250 reissue POS asap, that was horrible.  I have the 2 knob older FX50 so I'm assuming any bad ratings for this come from the later 3 knobber or something?!?!  I have also heard things like when it comes to the old Grey and Yellow 250s (not counting the Yellow POS reissues), no two sound exactly the same...maybe that is the same with this unit too?!?!  I got a gem then, almost as cool as my Gray 250 and about 10 to 15 times less in price...hows that for you?
Reliability/Durability:
I would back it up with my Gray 250 Ha!
Ease of Use:
Very Easy, 2 knobs
Customer Support:
Their new products suck, I dont buy their new stuff. Some of their old stuff is the best there ever was, however.  Try the orignal 201 phasor or the 600 line if you don't believe me.
Overall Rating:
I might have to sell my Gray 250 and buy about 10 more of these.  Thats how much I dig it.

sounds pretty cool.  a little nasly or high end for my personal tastes.  Definately has some kind of low-cut filter on it though.  Cause once you switch it on, pretty trebly.  Best used AFTER an OD or Distortion unit that doesn't kill your low end.  As far as overdriving, pretty good.  Gets dirty without becoming noisy.
Reliability/Durability:
Eh.  Luckily my uncle is an electronic repairman.  The switch busted, along with the LED.  Then again, I bought it used so it's probably around 20 years old.  New?  It's now been replaced by the FX50B or FX250B i can't remember.  But I've seen the pedal and the switch looks much sturdier.  Once the problems have been fixed the pedal has been great.
Ease of Use:
Super Easy.  2 knobs.  turn 'em till it sounds good.  oh yeah, and a footswitch to turn it on or off.
Customer Support:
No comment, bought used and is now discontinued.
Overall Rating:
I play loud rock and roll.  I use it mostly as a boost or extra loud dirty if you will.  Great match as long as you put it after an OD pedal that doesn't suck your low-end away.  Been playing for well over 10 years.  If it were stolen or lost, i'd probably just buy something else, might look into the replacement of this pedal (again either FX-50B or FX-250B can't remember.) I love that it's used, beat up, looks cool, is bright yellow, got it super cheap, and does what I need it to do.  Hate that it kills my lows. It's a good pedal.  It has its purposes, nice addition to the repotroire. (sp?)

i really haven't tried another one better..i own an old rat, an old tube screamer, a maxon real tube dist/od rod 881, an ancient ibanez wauwau fuzz, an dod fx56 american metal and i owned a lot of fu@ing pedals but this one is really cream...best OD ever and for only 15$!!! my setup is really complex : i use about 20 guits like gibson and orville les pauls, kramer alu neck, kramer baretta '84, kramer striker, bc rich stIII, music man van halen, fender strat dan smith, tokay and greco's tele and strat copies, ibanez strat copy ' 75, a tokay and a fernandes flying v, gibson sg '67, eko 335 style jazz guitar, eko les paul custom copy, etcc. trough a ernie ball volume pedal + boss cs1 +line6 filter modeler + ts9 or fx 50 + rat + mini qtron + maxon phaser tone + ibanez bc2 or sound city chorus + ibanez fl 301 dx + rockman stereo chorus/delay + morley split box that is goin' to a pod 2.0 and a yamaha dg stomp for some situations, otherwise i use an old soundcity 200 valve head or the marshall jubilee 50 combo that i own from 1989.
Reliability/Durability:
yes maybe i can depend but: 1 is the way you play not the gear 2 this pedal is really hard to destroy 3 i really don't know where to find another one..i'm from italy and this one is from NY and i'm really bored about ebay...i bought this one only because it was so cheap and i read good reviews here 4 i use respect with things i consider real instruments...for the rest i would like to meet the bosses of the big companies and use their "instruments" in the only possible way on them...
Ease of Use:
anyone can use this pedal...you need only your hear and taste
Customer Support:
i really don't know anyway i think that is quite impossible to break but very easy to be repaired.
Overall Rating:
i play mostly rock and hard'n'blues in the classic way...but i'm open minded on every thing that sounds good to me (no fu@@ing rave music and things like that, please...)anyway this one is perfect for the creamy dynamic crunchy sound that match with my tastes and way of playing. i played 18 years of my 34 and i owned a lot of things, much of them are passed away, like high gain amps or heavy metal things. the only things that i always had are the boss cs2, the marshall, the rat and the bc rich but i'm pretty sure that this yellow brick will be the fifth element of my "eternity set up". the only thing that i don't understand is why dod make this pedals with this stupid battery cover that loose ore breaks immediately. in the end there's only one thing i would like to say to you all: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THE BRANDS AND FASHIONS BECAUSE THE BEST MUSIC IS ALWAYS COMING FROM THE SOUL AND IS OFTEN MADE WITH POOR GEAR if you find one of this yellow pedals and you are in doubt in buying this or for example a ts 9, buy this one absolutely!! i will never buy the ts 9 again but i will buy another fx 50 for the price of a tubescreamer for sure!!!
