Lately, I've been using this with a Tele, fed through the Octave, a Chandler Tube Driver (my very first overdrive), a wah, and then into one of a couple different EL84 tube combos, one class AB, one class A. Alone this Octave is intense. It gives a fuzzy super boost that nails Jimi's solo on Purple Haze. I don't play covers, but I certainly got a hint for its application from Jimi. Personally, I tend to tame it with the Tube Driver that comes right after it. It smooths things off a little and helps tame the fuzz while encouraging the upper harmonics.
Reliability/Durability:
I haven't had any problems. I haven't even had to change the battery that it came with yet. I've had it over a year.
Ease of Use:
First of all, I want to say I love this pedal. There is a manual; it is helpful, but it only scratches the surface. I've had it over a year now and I still feel like a baby in its presence. This pedal was one of my first adventures in the boutique pedal world. When I got it, I can't say I GOT it. It has so many variables for such a simple tweaked sound. I give it a 5, but I think that's a good thing.
Customer Support:
J. Philpott is very easy to work with. Because I live in Hawaii, I was worried that there would be issues with shipping. He made it very easy to deal with him.
Overall Rating:
As with anything, this effect can really help you stand out in a mix with a sound that nothing else comes near. It nails Jimi if that's your bag. Of course, some music that I play this just doesn't fit with such as Jazz. So what? We learn more than one style as an expression of our love for all music. This pedal is like a special rare word that can sound ridiculous in the wrong conversation with the wrong crowd or the perfect word that brings the final touches to a conversation among those that understand. Maybe it's elitist. Maybe I'm a freak.
