this pedal sounds amazing. not to noisy like others say. but maybe some are. adds just enough boost at 12'o clock for my set up. from guitar- tuner-wah-screaming tree-overdrive-mxr blue box-mxr comp-vintage univibe-stereo chorus (split to a 69 twin/68 marshall 1/2 stack-mxr micro amp ends the chain. This set up for me is perfect, and the screaming tree makes the whole thing scream when needed.

It's a treble booster and does the job better than any of the recent boutique treble boosters I've tried. I play a '73 Gibson SG thru a Bassman 135 head and an Avatar 4x12 cab loaded with vintage 30's. I can get super crisp, over the top, clean chiming tones that just aren't possible through any other set up. The only negative with the pedal is that its a little noisy and when cranked too high can induce intense feedback if you're not far enough away from your rig. If you're looking for something to give your muddy amp or guitar that extra cutting edge this is it.
Reliability/Durability:
I bought this pedal used and in very cosmetically beat up condition but it's worked flawlessly at shows and home for the three years I've had it. It's a tank.
Ease of Use:
This is as easy as it gets. One big knob, big button footswitch, and an on/off switch. There's definitely something to be said for simplicity. This is a very old pedal, mine is a silver metal box with yellow type/graphics.
Customer Support:
I would be amazed if you could still get customer support for this.
Overall Rating:
I play punk, hardcore, and rock. If used with a good fuzz pedal I can get that high end buzzsaw sound of early Freeze material or easily transition into punk/indie sounds like the Pixies. I've used it with a Gretsch Duo-Jet, Fender Telecaster Deluxe, among other guitars and in my opinion made every one of them sound even better. I've played it through a Vox AC30 and beleive me it takes those bell tones to a whole new level, I've also used it with a Marshall 2555 and made the crunch even crispier by raising the treble. All of my friends who have used it have started looking for their own. The only possible improvement would be if an AC plug were standard. The Screaming Tree is the only pedal I've ever owned that I would be truly depressed if it were lost or damaged.

I play rock/blues so this kind of pedal is a must. It is much better than many boost pedals as it focuses on the high end frequencies (hence the name!) You find that alot of standard boosters tend to muddy the sound up a little, especially with humbuckers when pushed as they boos the bass & mids aswell. You can have this all the way up with your guitar and amp screaming and still hear every note. This pedal captures the Clapton bluesbreaker sound in every way. However, when you push it all the way up you get singing sustain, defined note definition and great harmonics. The good thing about this is the on off switch, which is next to the level knob. Whilst it disables the circuit, it also makes the pedal true bypass so you can carry on with no loss of tone, quite impressive for a vintage pedal. The switch is easy enough to flick back on with your foot to bring it back into the chain in a live situation.
Reliability/Durability:
Simple circuit, outer casing is very robust. Newer EH pedals seem alot more flimsier than the older ones which have alot more quality and sturdiness about them. That's why this pedal is older than me and still going strong!
Ease of Use:
One knob - no instruction manual needed. Plug it in and away you go. Needs to be out front of the amp to push your tubes into overdrive. Getting a good sound out of it is a doddle (provided you have a good amp). I tried it on a transistor practice amp before trying it with my tube amp and it sounded really nice. This simple pedal could compliment any size setup. I like these kind of pedals with big knobs on them that you can adjust to suit while playing. You can turn the level up/down to suit the sound required.
Customer Support:
Not had to deal with them. This pedal is no longer made by EH. Shame. However, I don't think they could recreate the magic in a reissue. There would always be something missing.
Overall Rating:
Overall a very nice addition for rock/blues artist. You can really hear yourself above the mix when soloing or it can add great cut for a rhythm part. There are loads of re-issue pedals that try to recreate the essence of these groundbreaking pedals. However, they tend to add all sorts of extras and phat mods etc, that whilst are good and responding to todays needs are a million miles away from the original designs. Open one of these original pedals up and you will see simplicity in action. Simple circuit, one knob, great sound.

when i first ran it in my line I put it through the effects loop and this is a BAD IDEA, dunno why, just really thin and quiet, once I ran it in front of the amp it's a great solo boost pedal. Makes my les paul really cut. And with a loud drummer in the band it's perfect for pushing the tubes in my little Traynor custom valve 40 watt that extra bit. I find I can even hear it in my tone, it's not a distortion at all, it just hits the tubes harder and really breaks up the tone well. I'm partial to the Pixies and find this pedal really gets the lead tones Joey had with the band, Someone told me he runs one and I'd beleive it. I wonder if this is what the screaming trees got their name from? either way, i love this simple little box
Reliability/Durability:
I have a few electro harmonix pedals beyond this one and none of them have let me down yet even thought I run them a bit hard
Ease of Use:
couldn't be easier to use, one knob that adds trebles and volume as you turn it.
Customer Support:
wouldn't know, no problems
Overall Rating:
I'd buy this thing again in a second. If someone stole it I'd compliment their taste in tone! If you find one, give it try!

i love this thing.. a big silver box.. with one knob.. fucken marvelous.. sounds soo good for solos.. notes ring out so clear.. i use a ESP Viper 301 and it enhances my sound soo much.. i turn the "Bright" switch on my amp.. and then i use this Screaming Tree and my solos really cut through.. god i love this pedal..
Reliability/Durability:
it uses a 9 volt.. except i am kinda skeptical about using batteries.. so you know what i did? i drilled a hole at the top of the box and brought out the black and red wires.. then i took the 9 volt adapter off of an old boss pedal that didn't work anymore and connected corresponding wires.. and poof... i know have a pedal that can be powered by and adapter..
Ease of Use:
one knob.. amount of treble.. and a switch to turn the unit off.. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! it even came with the original box.....
Customer Support:
this pedal is so fucken old.. they don't have anything on it.. i searched the net and didn't find shit.. so if you have any info.. email me.. thanks
Overall Rating:
If you manage to get your hands on this.. then your are lucky.. it's so easy to use.. and it's such a simple effect.. but it does alot for my sound.. i play deftones, at the drive in, sparta, RATM, and Dredg stuff and it makes some parts of songs sound soo good.. i love it
