I'm running the pedal in this order:  Fender Strat-Crybaby Wah-this pedal-Yamaha JX50.  There is some amount of buzz, it can be noisy.  The effects come across very strongly, it's a smooth buttery overdrive sound similar to Jimi-Hendrix(sometimes)or Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Reliability/Durability:
Like others have said, it's built like a tank.  the case is sturdy, and thick.  I would definately use it on a gig with no backup, you don't need one.
Ease of Use:
The Maestro MFZ Fuzz is very simple to use.  Two big dials make up the only controls on the thing, volume and gain.  These of course can be adjusted with your foot while you're playing.  The good tones basically just come out of the thing like it's alive.  However, the giant knobs can slip sometimes while you're adjusting them.

n/a  it's old, who would I call anyway?
Overall Rating:
I play mostly blues and classic rock, this pedal is perfect for all of the music i play.  I've been playing for just over ten years, mostly playing on strats and strat copies.  If it were stolen and I could find another one I would definately get it. The MFZ definately does not get in the way.  If you crank everything up to 9 controlled feedback sounds better and is easier to get.  With this pedal I can crank out any sound I want, it's great!

i use it through a carvin bel-air amp(clean channel), playing a strat with hs-3's. has a bright clapton-y sound, ala cream (strange brew). not as buzzy, but kinda cool. be sure and clean the pots as they get dirty and it's a gnarly sound through the amp! You really need to play with this pedal for a good sound. Remember, it was manufactured back in the 60's-70's (i think)
Reliability/Durability:
it's an old pedal and still works. it's built like a tank.
Ease of Use:
two big ole' plastic knobs on ether side. control w/feet while playing

I play blues and classic rock (SRV, Hendrix, Cream, zeppelin), and it works great. I am trying to preserve it, though. It's kinda nice to own a piece of musical history. I bought it used from an ad in the paper. I couldn't believe the dude let it go for so little (about 10 yrs ago).

Single coil Ax, Gibson G40 amp.  Tone went from crappy to unlistenable.  This had everything nobody wanted.  Hard to believe such a worthless effect in such a great package.
Reliability/Durability:
Built like a freeking tank, however I'm beginning to wonder if the sustain pot was shot - it didn't seem to do much.
Ease of Use:
If this is the pedal I think I owned when I was 14, I was so happy when I learned others would buy your crappy stuff.  Big wedge monster, with upside down switch pointing at base of unit so that you could switch it on/off by pressing anywhere on its top. Two side wheels (sustain / drive) to make adjustments super easy, and a third rubber disk in the middle to switch from heavy fuzz, to lite fuzz, to sustain only.  The ergonomics were absolutely first class, but because it took so long fiddling with it before finally realizing that you couldn't get a decent sound out of it brings the rating to a seven.
Customer Support:
Nada - never tried.
Overall Rating:
This putz would almost make Alex Lifeson sound bad.  Did somebody in the company really authorize this effect's sound?  They should've called it "The Career Killer".  Super ergonomics brings the rating up to a 2.  All pedals should be constructed like this one.

I haven't found it to be very noisy at all. and as far as the fuzz goes it gives a pretty good ratty roar and unlike a lot of fuzz pedals I've got it manages to hold the low end pretty well. (it even works pretty good for bass keeping the lowest part of the sound intact while distorting the upper end of the sonic spectrum.)
Reliability/Durability:
the only problem I have with the pedal at all is with the really poor design of the battery holder. it takes a 9v, which is suppossed to sit in a plastic clip that fits into the back of the pedal casing. the clip is virtually useless. the battery constantly falls out and slides around on the circuit board. however, this hasn't killed it yet.
Ease of Use:
I love this thing. a 70's monster. it's a wedge about 9" x 5" and approx 4" at its highest point. this pedal was designed by geniuses who understood that in the middle of a song you really can't stop playing and lean over and twiddle with little tiny knobs to adjust your sound. there are two controls, volume and drive, these are adjusted by two large plastic wheels mounted along the sides of the pedal, meaning that you can very easily adjust them with your feet. just brilliant.

I use it in a crunchy pop band. It never gets washed out when playing rhythm and is a nice contrast to the other guitar player and his Big Muff. I'd pick another one up in a heartbeat. the control design alone makes it worth having. and I still, many years later, get a kick out of the input label "axe". I've got about half a dozen vintage fuzzes and this by far is my favorite. it will work with any guitar I play (some of the others don't seem to like certain guitars)and I think sounds much better than even the original Maestro Fuzztone. I don't know how many of these are floating around, but if you see one. just get it.
