The sound that comes from this pedal is amazing. I can find sounds from Hendrix in this pedal. The tone is also great. I have used this pedal ever since I got it in early 2001. I use many guitars with different pickups, and this pedal is grat for most of them.
Reliability/Durability:
No problems with this pedal. It has been in use since of early 2001.
Ease of Use:
This pedal has two knobs: Volume & Intensity. Very easy to find a good tone or sound.
Customer Support:
No need to contarct the maker.
Overall Rating:
Awesome pedal. On the inside of my pedal it says "24 of 30," so I guess if I lost this pedal I wouldn't know where to get another one. I will keep this pedal in good shape and use for as long as I can.

I thought it was very quiet for a octave/fuzz effect. I like using my Les Paul with it...you get that cool old fuzz sound with that magic ghost note showing itself all around the 12th fret. You back off the intensity knob and get a clean octave up effect too. There are alot of possibilities with this little pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
It seems very well wired, should last for years to come.
Ease of Use:
Two knobs pretty easy to use...it has some real great sounds in it...from 12 to 3 you get Hendrix live.....you can also get some early Jeff Beck..(Blow by Blow or Wired) with a little playing. The instructions were helpful and it a fun on eto play.
Customer Support:
Never contcated the builder.
Overall Rating:
I love the old classic rock sounds...Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton, and SRV and such......playing for over 30 years...been though tons of gear this one is a keeper. If you can find one get one. They did'nt make alot of these...it's a great pedal for solo's and sound effects when needed. It's a good value for a bootik pedal..I don't have 700 for the real deal.

this is a really cool box.  you can get that hendrix screaming strat sound out of it which is great, but i have a lot more fun with some of the ringmodulationesque things that it does when you run it by itself a la band of gypseys.  i was very impressed by how much you can get this box to do if you mess with it enough.  it's pretty quiet which is good and mine is from his 2000 line which has true bypass which is real nice.
Reliability/Durability:
it's in a MXR style aluminum box and the board looks solid and well constructed.  i haven't had any problems at all with it so yes, i would gig with it.
Ease of Use:
this effect apperars very straight forward in it's design which consists of two knobs "volume" and "intensity".  there are, however lots of other things including your pickups, playing style, guitar volume control, amp, and other effects that effect the tone alot. and i mean a lot.  he sends a little pamphlet with the box that shows you how to get started and that was real helpful.
Customer Support:
i ordered the box through justin philpott personally and he was courteous and prompt in responding to my e-mails.
Overall Rating:
i play blues, rock, and fusion jazz and i like it.  it give you a good sound and it's fun for experimenting.

Tych Octave

I am running a strat through the Tych to an old twin reverb. The intensity knob is the only one to worry about. When its turned all the way down, its a very clean octive sound. When its turned all the way up the octive effect gets sort of lost in MASSIVE distortion and a huge compression. Very over the top. Stick the knob anywhere from 12 to 3 o'clock and you have Hendrix. Thats where the pedal shines, sounds exactly like some of his live recordings. I never liked the ring mod sound till I played this, it has sort of a ring mod with a real dirty little fuzz over it. Just listen to some late Jimi and you will hear exaclty what this unit does. Very nice. I give a 9 just because there are way too many 10's for effects on this board, I have to curl up in fetal position when listening to give out that number...but very close.
Reliability/Durability:
One of only 30 made and he only has 2 effects out; meaning I can get in touch with him *if* there is a problem, but I don't see that in the future.
Ease of Use:
There are two knobs: vol and intensity. I find that vol does not interact with the effect at all so really its a one knob operation, very simple
Customer Support:
See above... like many of the custom effects out now at days, you can talk to Justin and stay up to date with what he is doing. I am now part of the Philpott family.
Overall Rating:
Overall you can see I am very happy. One aspect that I think about is the resale value. If for some reason I want to sell this, I think I will get pretty close to what I paid for it, and at $135 its a pretty good deal. What gets me about many of the custom effects now at days is the fact they are trying to give a high quality replacement for effects which cost too much to buy vintage. However many of them are starting to creep into the $400 range. This is a good deal for a solid pedal that plays great. The only option I would like to see is a power adapter.

I am using this in a small pedal board with a few other stomp boxes.Mid 60's Stratocaster into the Tych first, into cheap Vox Overdrive, into TS-10,into DejaVibe2,into Italian Vox wah, into early to mid-60's BF Deluxe Reverb with an EV.The pedal is really not noisy, but is sensitive to other electronic devices in it's immediate vicinity.Computer monitor for instance.May be affected by fluorescent lighting, don't know? It most definitely captures the sound"Band of Gypsys" without a doubt.Again, you just get a glimpse of how amazing Hendrix was.Not sure about the new guys, haven't heard anything. The effect is quite authentic sounding and is subtly changed by the way and what you play. is quite a bit quieter than any garden variety Fuzz or OD pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
Have not gigged with it,but it seems well made and reliable.Sturdy little box like MXR stuff.Paint job is kind of rough, but if saw my guitar you'd laugh at that cricism.Yes if I live long enough to ever gig again,I'll definitely use it without a backup.
Ease of Use:
I give the Tych 10 for ease of use. This is a sound specific pedal,in other words there are not alot of users I've heard doing innovative things with it.You begin to see some of the genius of a guy like Hendrix who makes a fairly obtuse sound very musical. Those sounds are a snap to get on Justin's pedal, two note bend combinations sound really tense.Single note stuff is more prominent in the higher registers, but it responds well all over the fretboard. This a two knob device so the parameters are somewhat limited, but the individual nuance of where you play, how hard you pick, the pick up you use make a difference in what you'll get.Sounds great with a wah after it,as well as a DejaVibe.Slowly arpegiated chords have a wild chime-like effect. You have to work with it,but it does put an interesting slant on things.
Customer Support:
Justin was great to deal with.Had cause to request some screws for the bottom plate,he responded quickly and got them right out to me. I feel confident that he would stand behind this pedal, though I doubt it will need repair.
Overall Rating:
This is a somewhat unique pedal.I think a variety of sounds are available, however, you must learn how to use it and what sounds best. This is more of a single note device, though two note combinations sound great.Chords are wild, not really useable for accompaniment, maybe for tension/sound effects. We primarily have Jimileading the way on how to use it,but there are still alot of possibilties. It is something like an unusual color one might use if they were painting. If you use it excessively it may seem less musical but use it like you would a strong spice and it will make your sound/playing more interesting.I have not tried to compare this with any of the other similar pedals out there, but hey this isn't a foot race, this is very subjective stuff to begin with.I am really happy that there guys such as Justin and numerous others making faithful recreations of great old pedals. There is probably some guitarist out there who will turn some obscure sounding pedal into a classic, but for now this remake may turn some obscure guitarist into a new classic.
