As good as my original - and quieter too. I absolutely love it! I had my doubts - but as soon as I plugged in and hit the switch - those doubts vanished with the first tape-like repeat. I purchased an extra, just because they look so darn good! Actually I needed one for my second rig... ; - ) The Cool Audio MN3205 delay chip seems to be a winning ticket! Again - I had my doubts. Looking at the interior of the MKII, Mr. Tripps made sure that MXR used only the best quality of production. I want to say that the MKII is sporting a more sophisticated compander circuit... This would would explain its quiet natured performance. Great job guys - the MKII is a WINNER!!!
Reliability/Durability:
Of course it's too early to tell - but this thing is one of the best built effects pedals I've ever seen! This thing is built for the road! Just get one - and you'll see what I mean. I love the footswitch action too!
Ease of Use:
This is for the new MKII unit: Simple as it gets. Delay/Feedback/Level Battery access on the front. Good thinking guys!
Customer Support:
Backed up by MXR... No problem.
Overall Rating:
This is one of the best built - best sounding 300ms delays I've ever used. It's quieter than my original AP, and my 1981 Boss DM2. Not as dark - but definitely quieter. Each on of these are hand-tuned also. This is evident by the silicon drops on the trim-pots. At $149.00 you can't go wrong. Is it as good as my MN3005 equipped Deluxe Memory Man - or my custom-made SIB Analog Echodrive? This is a 300ms 9 volt (MN3205 based) delay, so your not going to get "that" type of delay signal. 18 volt delays have more headroom - hence their more pristine delay signal. BTW - Nothing beats the SIB Analog Echodrive, or the E-H Deluxe Memory Man. Those are 18 volt MN3006 equipped circuits. IMO - Rick Hamel of SIB wins the award for the best sounding delays ever built. His analog Echodrive, digital Echodrive, and Mr. Echo Plus are absolutely incredible! The Mr Echo Plus is a low impedance delay, so you can use it in your amps loop. It's repeats rival any analog delay on the market - no doubt about it. It's closer to tape than any analog 9 volt pedal I've ever heard. As with his other delays, it has a "spacey" delay sound that can only be had from tape-based delays. Not even the mighty Deluxe memory Man can do that. Is it the best 300ms delay on the market? I have many short-delay style pedals... The new MKII is IMO is best new 9 volt delay to be released.

Aqua Puss Analog Delay

a cool ass dude.

Sound Quality:
I use this through a Vox AC30 and a '52 RI Tele with an Adder neck pickup. Other main pedals in my rig are...Keeley Compressor, Analogman King of Tone, Zendrive. So far so good. I previously had an old Ibanez AD-80 and I ain't gonna lie...it may be a HAIR warmer. However, the Aqua Puss is clearer AND warm. Still wanna pick one of those up again down the line. Pretty quiet although you will run into a little hiss after 1:00 on the dial which is fairly common for an analog delay. I use it for slapback so no hiss for me. This pedal has a very ambient sorta "reverbish" quality that at first wasn't used to but now I crave. I also just sold an MXR Carbon Copy which Jeorge Tripps had a hand in and I kinda miss that pedal too! Every pedal has their unique flavors for different situations. Will have to get one of those again, too! I must say that the CC is a fantastic pedal that is built solid and priced right and that would probably be THE pedal to gig with.
Reliability/Durability:
Yes, it is built solid and I would not gig with it PERIOD unless I had a couple coked up NFL players standing guard right next to it. I don't think anybody in the crowd can tell the difference between this and anything else. This will be for studio use only.
Ease of Use:
Ahhhhh the ever famous, ever lusty Aqua Puss delay. A little tricky to get your exact setting because the feedback knob is very intense but once you dial her in you will never want to turn her off! As a guitar player, I look at this thing like an old man looks at a restored '57 Chevy.
Customer Support:
Actually e-mailed Jeorge some questions and he was helpful. Seems like a cool *** dude.
Overall Rating:
I first heard about this pedal through Brad Paisley and HAD to cop the tones myself. It's the only sure fire way to get that slapback tone. I know about the DM-2 but had to have the 'Puss. :-) You can get close with others but there is only one. Everybody knows you can only get this used as they are not made anymore and you can say what you want about the price but you probably have some big purchases in your rig too and would buy certain expensive items if you had the money at the given time. I think modern Gibson is a waste of coin but we are all entitled to our opinions. I had to scrape it together for this one. I ain't rich, but my tone is!

Aqua Puss Analog Delay

Noise level of delays are usually present in a floor pedal board and this is no exception.Replace battery, no help.Compared to Boss DM3 and a new Ibanez AD-9 Reissue it is not any better than what you are paying for. These are way hugely overpriced and the folks that sell them on ebay for over $500 are crazy, save your money and buy a couple DM3's or AD9's and have two delays for different settings. The AD9 also has a trim pot inside to get more of the Eric Johnson approved 379 millisecond time. Fairly high noise level but most analogs are.Not enough mojo for the price.
Reliability/Durability:
Seems well built with nice components, but it is a floor pedal.Treat it with some care.Luckily mine has the original box.
Ease of Use:
Simple to use, 3 knobs allow easy adjustment of parameters most used in delay pedals. Limited delay 20-300 milliseconds. Good for rockobilly I guess. No internal trim pots to lengthen time of delay.
Customer Support:
Out of business as are many boutique pedal makers. They seem to hop on the bandwagon and make some cool stuff and when they can't afford to advertise or keep up with demand they are gone. Too bad.
Overall Rating:
Cool pedal for $200, not worth the $500 and up hype, don't fall victim to this unless you are rich or stupid.Buy a vintage Boss DM-3 or a new Ibanez AD-9 and tweak it. The Maxon stuff is much better as well, I have been using delays for 25 years using Echoplexes on up thru the digital racks, many can be found on ebay cheap, but not this thing.Holy Grail???? NOT!!!!

Aqua Puss Analog Delay

Price:
$800.00 USD USED

Sound Quality:
sound quality is great, yes. But I will go against the grain here and point out the Aqua-Puss' liabilities: NOT ENOUGH DELAY TIME. If you need it for slapp-a-billy , echo or a short delay it is fine, But does a 300ms delay justify$800-$900 on Ebay? This is a clone of the Ibanez/Maxon AD80 (which was 18v) but you can get a clone of this clone by buying an "Atomic Echo Clone" at Musictoyz.com. All three of the aforementioned pedals sound almost identical. That said, it is a great sounding pedal
Reliability/Durability:
very reliable. I own over 10 Way Huge pedals and have never had a problem w/the plastic switches.
Ease of Use:
very easy to use analog delay
Customer Support:
none
Overall Rating:
I prefer a longer delay to double up my notes like the Moog MF104 or the Toneczar Echotone (over 100ms!!!)...the Maxon AD999 (or900) is very good too. Still, I would only sell all but one of my 3 aqua-puss'.
