Here's my setup: Gibson LP Standard/Ibanez RG-470 > XP-100 > Boss Octaver OC-2 > Boss MD-2 > Boss BD-2 (Homemade Keeley mod) > Boss CE-3 > Fender Stage 112 SE I've had this pedal for over ten years, I originally bought it in my teens because I was (and still is) a big Dimebag Darrell/Tom Morello fan and at the time it was the only way to get the Whammy (WH-4 hadn't been issued yet). I have to say that while the Whammy is fun, I just got tired of it real quickly and have mostly used the Wah settings on this pedal for most of it's existence (that's just personal preference and has nothing to do with the pedal itself). How does it sound, well the Wahs are pretty good to my ear (I use setting 3 mostly, nice wide cry baby that sounds good with a lot of gain). The auto wahs are fun and varied. The best are settings 10 and 11, which are very touch sensitive and definitely playable. Finally the middle settings where all the Whammy presets come in. The Whammy is good, as others have said there's a slight lag on them, but nothing you can't compensate for. Of course, playing chords is out of the question, it just becomes digital muck for the most part. I found the Whammy to be as advertised, the lag is a bit annoying but fine. You can get all the wild and freaky Dimebag/Morello stuff with this pretty easily. Above that, there's the harmony settings, which I rarely used. Some fun stuff, but not my cup of tea. This pedal, to my ear is pretty noisy. It adds quite a bit of hiss to your signal (especially when I'm playing lead with the BD-2 and MD-2 are both on). Also, my biggest problem is the volume on this pedal. I find there's no sweet spot, it's either too high and clips everything or too low and the rest of the chain loses it's cut and presence. Once and a while I can dial it in right, but it's been a struggle from day 1 with this thing.
Reliability/Durability:
Had it for over 10 years, have gigged it without a backup. The casing is good and sturdy and the expression pedal seems solid. The only failing in design is the two selector pedals which are plastic. After ten years one recently broke off, the button still works fine, but I have to figure out a way to fix it
Ease of Use:
It's a fairly simple product to use, there's 29 presets which are selectable using the upper button, also a 6 banks to store your favorite effects for faster switching on the fly. The expression pedal has a nice even feel for fast rocking on it, not as heavy as a traditional cry baby. Also has a noise gate built onto it that is set using the expression pedal for intensity. I did find the manual a bit spotty for the noisegate, but otherwise was fine.
Customer Support:
Never had to go there
Overall Rating:
I play metal, rock, blues. I was more into metal when I bought than I am now, so over time I've become less interested in this pedal. That said it's a lot of fun and you can get some wild stuff out of it. I can't compare to other versions of the Whammy because I've never played them. But I would recommend to anyone if you can find it used for a good price. I don't know if I'd replace it if it was lost/broke, but that's more of a statement of my changing taste then any problem with this pedal.

Do not rely on this pedal to accurately track quick passages - there is a noticeable amount of signal delay if you're shredding like crazy. If that is what you're looking for, invest a few hundred in an EHX POG or the Micro POG. Couple the XP-100 with Fuzz pedal on a lo-gain setting, and the result can be magical. Or couple it with a boomerang phrase sampler or a 4 second delay unit, and drop some "funk sirens" like trey anastasio in '97-'00. If you lean towards the trippier side of thing with this pedal, you'll probably be satisfied.
Reliability/Durability:
It's in a cheap plastic casing, so I bet these units don't last too long. I purchased it used, and the little rubber stoppers (which prevent the pedal from hitting the base) had already fallen off. Take good care of these babies and you'll probably get a lot of mileage on them. If you need one for the road, then I'd definitely bring a backup. The last guitar player in my band already had one of these crap out on him after a few years of use.
Ease of Use:
It's fairly easy to get a good sound out of this pedal. You can store a number of patches in the User mode, which the other WH reissues can't do. The reason I gave this category an 8 is that the top footswitch alone is responsible for cycling through the patches. The bottom footswitch turns on bypass and is involved in activating the tuner. As you can guess, this setup is rather counter-intuitive. Once you get used to it, however, it's not the biggest deal.
Customer Support:
Never dealt with support.
Overall Rating:
In the end, I should've saved my $130 and put it towards a Whammy II. I still like tinkering around with this pedal, but the sound isn't as organic as I'd like it to be. The best thing about this pedal is that you can save user patches in an ordered configuration - which is something the WH1,2 or 4 can't really do.

I use this with a Peavey bass with passive pups into effects (Boss CS-3, Boss OC-3, XP100, Ibanez SB7, Wasabi Ax-10) into various amps (depending on venue/studio) I know the quality of the sounds here is a controversial issue but I dont't have many complaints - yes, some are more usable than others and some of the harmony and whammy settings are a bit out of tune but with this I love it because its flawed because I mainly use it for crazy noises. Some of the wahs arent useful with a bass. Tracking is good. Did hum a bit until I changed PSU.
Reliability/Durability:
I would gig without back-up as it is a reliable unit and solidly built. The rubber pads on the treadle arent an issue as stated in some reviews - mine have lasted with regular use to now (2008)
Ease of Use:
Easy to use - can be annoying going between patches as there is only switch for this - 2 would be better. More complex functions such as setting noise gate aren't too difficult after a read of the manual. tuner is awful and shouldnt have been included
Customer Support:
not really dealt with them but PDF manual was easy to find on website
Overall Rating:
I use this with my bass in my rock covers band on a few songs but also use it with my guitar at home - fits in well with my style of playing - however I only use 6 of the 29 settings (saved into user area. If it broke or were stolen I'd get a new Whammy 4 as they dont make this any more but these are worth checking the 2nd hand markets for as they are a lot of fun.

I don't really try to emulate a particular artist, so I'm looking solely at a creative standpoint. I do like the effects on this pedal for making different sounds. Even the detune (#29) has a unique quality to it. I've stored the detune, a wah, an auto wah, a harmonizer, a pitch bend, and the volume (for swells). Each is real good and there are multiple types of each of those categories to choose from. I don't have a lot of call for the wah, so some might be particular when it comes to their wah, but this is certainly good enough for me. Most of these sounds are onluy used as occasional effect, except for the detune which I keep on as part of my sound (I do keep the pedal's volume down so that it won't be overpowering, just a hint of modulation).
Reliability/Durability:
I bought mine used about seven years ago and haven't experienced any problems until recently when the patch switch has had some problems responding to my foot (I have to really press on the switch). I wish it was just a heavy duty metal switch (which I don't see often enough).
Ease of Use:
Pretty easy to start out. Lots of good effects and switching to each is not really a problem. The problems arise when you need to get from one effect to the other. Storing is not really an issue, but the manual leaves a bit to be desired in this regard. Once dialed in, the only problem is the display. It's a little hard to see and understand which effect is on. All-in-all, nothing really earth shattering in this category.
Customer Support:
Never neweded contact.
Overall Rating:
I've been playing roughly 25 years and have gone through a lot of equipment (some of which I wish I still had - an old Mustang comes to mind). For me to hold on to this pedal for 7 years and to use it as much as I do is a testimony to how much I like this pedal. Again, I don't use it as part of my everyday sound, but I do use it enough for it to stay on my pedalboard (which is actually a bit of a pain due to it's size).
