what I love about this pedal,is that it leaves your attack  alone if you leave the compression knob all the way down. This is not possible on many comps, particularly the Boss cs-1 for example. This pedal will squash your dynamics if thats what your into, but I like the fact that it can be subtle. The fx-80 compares nicely to my mxr dynacomp, and has even more gain than that pedal. It's quiet, you can leave it on at all times, the sign of a good comp.
Reliability/Durability:
never had a problem.
Ease of Use:
easy if you know how a compressor works,if you dont,I'm sure it must be difficult for some.

I'll knock a couple points off for the poor battery door and switch design.I own a DOD env. filter,chorus,fx-50 preamp and this compressor, all old two knob pedals from the same era.I know that one day these pedals will go way up in value, what I paid for mine is a joke.I have cases full of pedals and compare them to each other all the time and the fx-80 is the most underated compressor by far.I hope they remain a secret.

Sound quality is pretty good for a pedal made in the 80's. My setup is Ibanez Gax 70>>Dod compressor>>Ibanez TS7 tubescreamer>>Ibanez DC10 Distortion Charger>>Boss BF2 Flanger>>Boss DD3 Delay>>Ibanez SC10 Stereo Chorus>>Boss EH2 Enhancer>>Crappy Fender amp. One thing about the compressor it is noisy! and the level knob is kind of scratchy, but i needed to add just a little bit of sustain to my sound, and level out the volume of my picking. If you want a totally tweakable compressor buy something else. but this pedal works for what I need right now.
Reliability/Durability:
DOD pedals are notorious for the switches breaking down so I'm gonna buy either a digitech Main Squeeze, or a Boss CS3, and this will be my backup!
Ease of Use:
Two knobs... very easy to use... if you can't get a good sound out of it your a complete moron, or a mormon. Level knob is a little scratchy though.

I generally use this with my Fender Strat and the bridge pickup through a Peavey Classic 30 amp. The pickups are Fender Fat50's, and the bridge pickup could have been used to help with tooth extraction. I like to keep the treble on the amp around 6 but that was even too much for the pickup. However, this compressor really tames it nicely, especially when the compression is maxxed. There's no sustainer on this so you won't have to listen to your off-key clams repeating endlessly over dinner.
Reliability/Durability:
Very reliable. I don't need a backup for it.
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use. A couple of knobs. The level knob isn't really that sensitive to twiddling so it's easy to level-match to your amp if you don't want to use it as a boost.
Customer Support:
I bought it used and have never dealt with DOD.
Overall Rating:
I have played over 30 years, mostly rock but have started delving into jazz and country type licks, for which this compressor is ideal. In addition to the Strat, I play a Reverend Slingshot Custom. The FX80 does really well with the Strat in most pickup positions, but for some reason doesn't get on with the P90-equipped Reverend. I think its best utility is rounding off piercing treble, so I'm interested in how it would work with a Telecaster. I've not had a lot of experience with compressors, so I can't say if I'd replace it were it stolen or lost. It is, however, an inexpensive way to get familiar with compressors and their utility, and its ease of use helps.

The best compression pedals that I've ever met. I've tried MilkBoxes, MXR's, Ibanez (several), BOSS, this is the the best. Transparent, some may call it weak, I call it awesome. You control the sound!
Reliability/Durability:
So far no problems.
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use, simpliest that I've ever encountered in compression pedals.
Customer Support:
No need to turn to manufacturers support! Everything works fine! I've used it already more than two years! and I bought it as used. If either of mine would be stolen (Yes I have everything as pairs!) I had ithese replaced, buy new ones!!
Overall Rating:
I'd rate this ten. MXR's sucks, Ibanez are lower quality what else... I love this pedal! :)

Don't waste your money... or ruin the tone of a good amp... (You're gorilla 6" tranny may benefit from one of these..however)
Reliability/Durability:
I know when I open my effects case, I can depend on seeing a metal orange box... and I can rely on the fact that I'll never use it..
Ease of Use:
Nice metal box......Nice plastic nobs... I personally feel the sound STINKS...Turn the nobs, step on the "thingy"...and if it does anything that's DOD....
Customer Support:
Sorry DOD.... Turn out something that's worth buying every once and awhile....OK ? I'll stick with MXR/TC elect.... and other stomp co.s
Overall Rating:
Professional who dislikes DOD.... Stick with almost ANY other stomp mnfr.... these are dry and may even detract from your sound....imho.. Of course they may be great for "grunge" stuff...who knows
