FX40 Graphic EQ

Local musician.
Price:
$30.00 USD

Sound Quality:
Sound quality was pretty good. I'm playing through a Fender Bassman 50 head, and I'm playing with an Ibanez Blazer guitar. I have single coils, so I have to be really careful with my EQ curve, because if I don't do it right, I'll get a lot of hum and fuzz. Overall, a really good sound for how cheap the pedal is. I bought it used for $30, and I can honestly say it was the best deal I've gotten on any of my pedals.
Reliability/Durability:
Not bad...not great. I can't afford to get backups, so I just treat it nicely. I had some problems with the footswitch, but I just fiddled around with it a bit and got it to work again (I didn't even have to take it apart). They deffinately could have used a better enclosure.
Ease of Use:
How can an equalizer be hard? If you honestly can't find the sound you like, or if you can't hear a difference in your sound when you're moving the sliders, you shouldn't be playing music. I love the fact that this thing has 8 sliders. You can get some really great sounds out of it, and tweak far more than you can with simpler EQ pedals.
Customer Support:
Never dealt with DOD. I have no idea how old this pedal is, since I bought it used. If the pedal stopped working, I think I would look up their technical information, but ultimately just buy a new one.
Overall Rating:
It's an EQ pedal. If you want your sound to change dramatically between each pedal, and you don't want extensive full control over your tone, levels, and dynamics, don't buy an EQ. If you like to be in control of your sound, this is deffinately a good, solid pedal with better features than some more expensive ones (8 sliders). Just be careful with it, and it'll do you right.

Setup: Fender Rhodes stage73 mk2 > Tubescreamer TS7 > Boss Tr-2 > DOD eq. > Fender Bassman 50 > Traynor 212 closedback. A TS makes the sound nicely mid-rangey, and I used the DOD for getting that sound, without the inevitable breakup from the TS. And, the Bassman only has high and low eq, so more tone shaping was welcome. It works perfectly well, but I ended up selling the thing again because it was so noisy. The Bassman is such a clean amp, and I felt I ruined the sound with the pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
The pedal switch broke... apart from that it is very solid.
Ease of Use:
uhm...there are loadsa things more difficult to operate than a graphic eq. Like coffee machines :-)
Customer Support:
never dealt with them
Overall Rating:
As said....for anybody with a noisy amp, this might be the pedal. An eq pedal can really make your instrument shine. For me, it ruined the nicely silent and to-the-point sound of the Bassman.

I play in a very upbeat church band. I use this for my acoustic Rosewood Fender. It's not noisy even when pluged straight into the PA. The difference is like night and day when you strum a chord and tap it on and off.
Reliability/Durability:
I refuse to be an idiot and put a review down two days after I get it like some of these bozos. I've had it, used it, and giged it now for 6 months, still works great!
Ease of Use:
I read alot of reviews that said this thing was hard to get the right sound out of it. You have to take these reviews for what they are, OPINIONS, it's an EQ MAN!! Everyone has their own style and sound, mine won't be yours. So here is MY opinion: No need for a manual, just plug up and start sliding your EQ around till your guitar sounds like it's worth $1000 more than it actually is. Read on....
Customer Support:
Have'nt needed to contact them, product works great every time.
Overall Rating:
I was getting alot of HIGHs out of my acoustic when it was plugged. My ears just can't take that, so I headed off to a Mars Music with my guitar in hand to find my sound. Honestly most all that I tried did the job BUT none compared to the price nor the reputation of DOD, so I bought it. How much can you say about an EQ? This one gave me the sound I was looking for, made my acoustic sound like a guitar worth $1000 more for a mere $40 bucks. IN MY OPINION, I got MORE than what I paid for.

No problems here. Here's my setup: Ibanez GSA60 w/Invader Bridge pickup-->Ibanez Smash Box-->Ibanez Tubescreamer-->DOD EQ-->Ibanez Echo/Delay-->Peavey Minx 110 Bass Amp (Gives great low end w/ Smask box. The EQ is great. I can dial in anything from Green Day to Metallica to the scooped mids like Pantera. It gets a little noisy if you boost the main output slider and use distortion(Smash Box has a noise cancel switch)
Reliability/Durability:
The thing is built like a tank, but what's with the plastic stomp switch?
Ease of Use:
How hard can it be, it's an EQ

It's great. Perfect for those who don't want to spend the extra cash on the Boss, or put up with the extra noise.
