Made a cheap guitar sound expensive - and a decent guitar (Ibanez EDR 470 EX) sound like a bag of 80's heavy metal wank, Which personally i don't mind, but there you go. I have a couple of marshall pedals (Jackhammer and the Guvnor) used a Boss Metal zone thingy and tried the Ibanez tone lok jobbie - Na mate stick it in ya pointy ear - i'll take the dod any day. Depends what ya after for myself i'm a lifelong dod fan so.............
Reliability/Durability:
Put it this way someone tried to mug my gran when she was out shopping and for some unknown reason she had 'borrowed ma peddle' the outcome is ma gran is up for assalt with a deadly weapon and she's at least two hundred and four years old!!!!!!!!!!. This crap about the battery flap, it's on the end of the pedal! how do you break it ? have you got strange shoes i know not about? I would gig during a nuclear holocaust with this pedal - cos i know what would be left AND IT WOULDN'T B ME !!!!!!
Ease of Use:
The two things you need to know bout this thing - if your rocking out and the lighting rig fails - lo and behold this thing was birthed in the bowels of some radioactive stink pit I.E. it glows in the dark. As for use of controls (all three of them) HELLO EINSTEIN - IF YOU CAN'T WORK THEM OUT - BUY A TRUMPET OR SOMETHING. Editing patches ? I use a pedal to make a noise not to fix my clothes. As for the manual - Three knobs work it out it ain't hard. To b honest i think think this unit has been discontinued.
Customer Support:
Don't know - see above. This is probably why their pedals are cheaper than breast surgery ???. SURGERY CAN GO WRONG D.O.D. PEDALS DON'T.
Overall Rating:
I play noisey shite, suits me fine. Ive bin playing bout 20 years used it through various rigs. Personally i own a really old H/H head and 4 x 12 speaker, set up for what i own - AWESOME. The new stuff on the go (line 6, laney etc) I'd give it a go. BUT MY PEDAL WAS STOLEN and it took me 7 years to get another one, and, as above, guess which ones I'm selling first. Anything i wish i'd had ? - that would have absolutley faff all to do with the pedal so.. IF you get the chance of one cheap give it a go, if not buy a death metal pedal AND TELL ME I'M WRONG!!!!!!!

The sound of this thing is pretty lame. Much worse than I remember, but I guess this is understandable after being used to using better quality distortion for so many years. The sustain is pretty weak compared to what I've been used to. One nice thing it has to offer is that it rekindles some old memories of what it was like when I was younger and first started playing guitar, but after the reminiscing is over I'm still left wondering how on earth I ever coped with this lousy sound for so long back then. I guess it was a case of not knowing anything better at the time. Well, time certainly changes things. Stylistically I guess this pedal would work good for people who were into the early 90s sloppy grunge rock style. It doesn't work that great for Metal though, when playing Metal you definitely need something more powerful than this.
Reliability/Durability:
As for the pedal's reliability, well...it's still working after 13 years, so I guess I can't complain there. I just wish I could say the same thing about my beloved effects processer :)
Ease of Use:
My effects processor recently died, so I had to resort to digging out this old pedal from my closet. My friend first bought this pedal back in 1992 and I bought it off him a couple years later. It's certainly quite simple to use, 3 knobs to choose from. Click it on and presto!!You're ready to rock!!...well, sort of.

Overall Rating:
I remember for a short time I had a pedal called The ''Death Metal Pedal''. I remember that one had a much better and more powerful sound. My advice to Metal fans would be to find one of those instead.

I use tons of guitars inluding a Rogue Start rip-off, a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Peavey Strat rip-off, and other stuff. I use a Crate GFX 20 amp or a Rogue BT-120 bass amp. Listen to L7's "Andre." The rhythm guitar in this song sounds exactly like this pedal. Probably more of a hard/heavy rock pedal. Great for grungy-type sounds. I don't know why people say this pedal is low on bass. It's the bassiest distortion I have. Good for specific types of Metal, not all types. Most people buy Metal Pedals and expect them to sound exactly like Metallica or Slayer or whatever. They don't realize that every band uses different pedals and settings. Then they get angry because the pedal doesn't sound exactly like what they want, so they write a bad review. My only complaint about this pedal is it doesn't respond to artificial (pinch) harmonics very well, but then again, most distortions don't.
Reliability/Durability:
I know every hates DOD, but I love them. The people who break them are usually the people who abuse them. I've seen many posts saying DOD pedals break if you stomp them like a madman. What do you expect? I broke a switch on a DOD once because I did this, but fixed it easlily. The battery cover on this thing is vulnerable to getting lost. DOD fixed this problem in later models.
Ease of Use:
Three knobs. One for Volume, one for Tone, one for Gain. Very Easy.
Customer Support:
Never called.

ive used it with 2 strat copies and a telecaster it sounded good on them all, apart from it screamed abit with feedback on my strat with humbuckers so it depends whats in your guitar.I has a strong distortion with strong bass so it adds alot of thickness i was amazed of how much sustain it had.At the shop i bought it in i used this and a metal zone i tried playing some riffs with the metal zone but it didnt have the chunkiness and the sustain, i got home played this to death reacked it rocked looked at the reviews and i cant believe how many say it sucks i dont reckon its true. but make up your own mind play one.I use this with a tube works 352 solid state amp works perfect, im not sure if its really good at imatating sounds i can get some good stabbing westward tones like "everything i touch" "ungod" and filters "hey man nice shot". This pedal really kicks off with some chorus i out the depth up on my ce-3 and put the rate down it gave a good flanged distorted sound, use it with another effects pedal to get screaming feedback. all in all its good but its not perfect.
Reliability/Durability:
nah its not gonna break its metal the only thing to worry about is the battery cover coming off. The switch is plastic but it would be hard to break it.I would use any pedal as a backup if i had a gig
Ease of Use:
Its easy enough to use you got level presence and distortion. A bit weird that the distortion knob only has to sounds below 11 o'clock and above but the presence knob helps create more tones with it.
Customer Support:
i havent dealt with them.
Overall Rating:
I play abit of everything mostly rock based from led zepp nirvana filter stabbing westward nufan mest bush placebo etc. it seems to work well with most of these. Ive been playing for about 5 years ive got about 8 guitars 5 effects pedals this is second best out of my pedals the ds-2 is first only cause the range of sounds. I has a real bassy distortion thats thick thats the best thing about it. Its only been compared to a ds-1 a ds-2 a metal zone a modern fusion and a range of amp disortions but i like it second best. This pedal gives me an edge to create new sounds i havent heard with other distortions, i recommned getting this is you need a thick distortion with alot of sustain and most importantly dont let these reviews decide what to buy try it first

My bassist use a Foxxe Bass By Barrington (It's from 1982, its parts are from ESP, the Barrington company doesn't made basses any more). The sound it's a perfect distorsion to be used with the bass. It's really a weird distortion. Our guitar player says he don't like in the guitar (he uses an Aria Pro). Our bassist uses it this way: Bass--Dixon Distorsion--DOD MetalManiac--DOD Bass Stereo Chorus--Ibanez Soundtank Compressor--Peavy TNT amp.
Reliability/Durability:
DOD pedal cases are heavy. Hard to destroy. OK, its switch is made of plastic, but if you're smart and have a little of care when you push it, it ain't a problem. Now, if you're a beast using the pedal, well, I think you'll end destroying it. No problem at all. Very easy to change the internal switch when it gets damage (We repaired our DOD Metal X FX70).
Ease of Use:
Hi¡, I¡m from Venezuela. Use? Simply, only three knobs, get the first at 9 o'clock, and the other two to the maximun (if you're bass player).
Customer Support:
Well, I think DOD should publicate the manuals of discontinued pedals on its web (they only have information about new models). But they don't do it, so, I think they're wrong. Please, HEAR YOUR COSTUMERS, THEY'RE ALWAYS RIGHT.
Overall Rating:
Did you hear The Hives "Hate To Say I Told You So" song?, we'll, if you're searching for a bass sound like, DOD MetalManiac is your pedal. We're playing this song, and the bass solo sounds the same that the original version. We're playing a fussion of grunge with metal and some funk. Our group has many influences, and we do use a lot of DOD pedals (We've two MetalX FX70, 1 Stero Chorus FX65, 1 Bass Stereo Chorus and the Maniac, and searching for a used Grunge). If our pedal is stolen or get damage (for extreme use) I would buy it again. I think it'll help us with some new songs that we're making right now. The Metal Maniac sound it's really weird and MANIAC!!!!!!
