I run a variety of guitars through my effects chain (Fulltone FD2, Ibanez GE9, Univox Super Fuzz, Tech21 XXL, Musitronics Mutron III, DOD FX747, Ibanez PT9, Roland Space Echo 301). I plug into an Orange Rocker 30 or a Fender Twin Reverb. Clean, I can get anything from beautiful subtle or hard flanging, to a filtered chorus sound, to vibrato, phaser sounds, and special effects. Dirty, this thing can sound huge. I absolutely love it. I think it's a crying shame some DOD effects are so underrated. This unit sells on ebay for criminally cheap. This is an American product, yet it's so shamefully dissed when compared to other foreign flangers that are considered "vintage" and don't come even close to this unit.
Reliability/Durability:
No problems at all.
Ease of Use:
It's very easy to get a good sound, either clean or with distortion. It mixes well with other effects too. I bought this unit new in 1998, so I've had it for over ten years.
Customer Support:
Never had to use it.
Overall Rating:
I play rock. As I've mentioned, I've owned this thing for a decade, so I'm way past the honeymoon period. I own two other flangers, both vintage: an Ibanez FL301 from the late 70s, and an AC-powered DOD 670 from 1980. Out of these three flangers, the FX747 wins, hands down. Don't let anyone tell you that vintage is necessarily better. I own a bunch of vintage effects, some great, some not so great. I don't know why the American-made DOD effects are considered less desirable or valuable, while Ibanez, Boss and other foreign-made effects are considered superior. I've been playing for over 20 years, and I have a ton of experience with effects and gear. The 747 is an incredible flanger, and I will never get rid of mine. Buy one and spread the word.

This is a great pedal and I am so glad I found out about it.  I really like a flange but I wanted something that could be much more subtle and also do a glassier chorussy sound.  Well this did it.  I also wanted something that did not destroy the tone and from what my ears tell me it might as well be true-bypass, no sound loss, boosting of frequencies.  The blend knob is key because you can dime all everything and only mix in some of the signal.  Pull bach the mach (speed) a bit and you can get  scofield agogo sound of it.
Reliability/Durability:
This is my third old DOD pedal. I believe it to be from the late eighties maybe early nineties.  They have not failed me yet and I trust the switch on this (though it is plastic) more than the older early 80's ones.  I have the classic fuzz and the octoplus and I was impressed at the assortment of sounds I can get with these three.  I also have in this order, classic crybaby>mutron III+>DOD fx35 octoplus>ibanez ts7 (soon to be replaced by more reliable digitech bad monkey because the ts7 switch is total shit and enitrely not reliable, don't buy one)>DOD fx747 supersonic flanger>dod fx52 classic fuzz> in the loop, boss ph-3 (don't buy one of these either, it ate your tone and shat it out quietly for breakfest, and while your at it don't buy the digitech main squeeze either, tooooo noisy) into EHX memory man deluxe reissue> peavey delta blues 210, i use a epiphone dot vs
Ease of Use:
This thing is very easy to use.  Just fiddle with it until you've found the sound, sounds (as it is pretty versatile, but perhaps more subtle than other flangers) you're looking for.  The payload (blend) knob is fantastic by the way.
Customer Support:
never tried
Overall Rating:
I play blues, funk, rock, reggae, hard-rock, and some ambient noise crap, haha.  I would buy another if this were stolen and highly recommend it as a low-cost, very high flange quality. it is not an extreme flanger but perfect for what i wanted it.  The blend know is the best part and wish all pedals had a dry/wet mix know.

FX747 Super Sonic Stereo Flanger

Very good sound quality, especially for a DOD. I was VERY pleasantly surprised- being as picky as I am with my tone/sound. It is a subtle flange, not real "wet" (unless knobs 1 & 4 are dimed). That's what I like about it. You can get lots of sounds out of. What I like the most about it, is it's subtleness when needed (I'm not into real heavy "wet" sounds when I play live), and it makes for a great stereo chorus actually- better than most chorus pedals I've tried. Actually can get a very vintage VH sound when used with distortion. If it had a hint of noise I wouldn't still own or use it, period. It does give a breathy noise if all the controls are dimed, but I set #1 & #2 @ 12 o'clock, #3 @ 9 o'clock, and #4 @ 11 o'clock, (it makes NO noise at these settings). I've noticed no "tone sucking" when used, or bypassed. My main gtr is a '91 Ibanez 770FM (rare USA made), upgraded with Van Zandt pickups. Setup: Gtr > Boss TU2 tuner > Ibanez Soundtank TS-5 (808 & brown-sound modded) "tone"  > DOD 747 > Maxon OD 808 "boost" > Boss DD-3 (wished the DD3 wasn't so clean and sterile, I'm working on that as we speak. But I don't use delay all that much, just if the song requires it, so it's not that big a deal). I stereo the DOD "wet" side thru the Maxon and delay into a Peavey Classic 50, 2-12(one of the BEST sounding clean amps for under 1K so far, and very underrated, but many national acts I've played with use these and take the Peavey emblem off, and most think they're using a Fender). In fact my band mates have Sodanos and Matchless they gave limbs for, and my tone is just as good. The "dry" side of the DOD goes straight to an Ampeg VH 140-C (the best sounding clean SS amp nobody's heard of, compliments the classic 50 like you've never heard). Some have said that the 747 should be used before overdrive. I agree. But since I use 2 TS-808 clones (one for tone, and one for boost), the boost actually sounds better after the 747. Interestingly enough, I opened this puppy up to check it's craftsmanship (I always do), and found that it has 6 chips! Four of those are the vaunted  JRC 4558D chip found in the 808's. Maybe that's why this box seems so "warm". I dunno, but I thought it was interesting.
Reliability/Durability:
Seems built well. Works when I step on it. I always have a plan B. It's kinda old and still gives me service, so that's a good thing. But I always take good care of my gear, and have road cases for everything.
Ease of Use:
Not terribly diffcult to get what you want. Takes a little while to find out how all the knobs react with each other. No manual, if you need a manual for a stomp box I feel sorry for you. I got it last year from a friend of mine who bought it off e-bay, and he didn't really have a use for it. Glad I did. Please note that I'm a very critical musician, and I'm NOT here to pimp anything. I've either owned or played thru everthing on the market, short of a Dumble, so my expectations are high. Sorry in advance if I get long winded.
Customer Support:
I have a Digitech GSP Pro 21. I had some minor probs with it early on, years ago, and they were very good to me. I've gigged with it weekly for 13 years and it has given me good service until recently when the cable crapped out (you cannot replace them), so I've gone back to my stomp box ways. Not sure completely about DOD, but I understand they are related to Digitech. I simply called them when I had a prob (my fault), and they helped me fix it.
Overall Rating:
I play Classic Rock (T-Rex, Skynyrd, Eagles), some newer (and classic)country, old funk, etc. Covers, mostly with a very wide variety because that's what is required at the clubs, private parties, etc., that we play - and that's why we are hired. It's the music I grew up with, makes me happy. Yeah, I laugh at the drunk(s) in audience too when they yell "FREEBIRD!!!" too. But we'll play it if the guy slaps down a C-note on the stage to do it, hehe. Stolen? insert favorite soundbite here_________. I don't think they are that easy to find....yeah, if it were stolen or lost, I'd buy another if it were available. If you are reading this review because you have a chance to get one, and trying to decide, I'd recommend getting it if not too pricey and not dead. I've been gigging since the late 70's (our band has been together since then). I've owned every brand of Amp for under 1K. Every multiple effects rack units (Yuk). Most every brand of stomp boxes, including boutiques(most very overrated). I'm the kinda guy (as is the other guitarists in my band) that believe simplest, and cleanest, is best. While this may seem like I'm exagerating, I am not. Different styles and sounds have come and gone over the years, and playing covers of the day, and different styles as well, I've tried to stay ahead of the curve. We seem to have gone back to our roots. The big hair days of the 80's are gone! And some of the crappy gear everyone HATED in the 70's seems to have made it's way into the present, and costing WAY too much. I've made lots over the years gigging, and imagine that if I were to add it up, and subtract what I've spent on GTR and PA gear, I would probable be in the red, hehe. I don't do it for the money. I can hear it now, "Yeah, but you use a Peavey and a Soundtank! If you've really own/owned all that stuff, why? Are you a dumbass?" NO. The Peavey classic 50 sounds BETTER than my '74 Marshall Plexi 50 watt head and 4x12 cabinet. BELIEVE it! Besides, I'm leaving all my vintage stuff under lock and key and gonna sell it for top dallar to some "vintage fool", while I keep less expensive stuff that actually SOUNDS BETTER. And my modded Soundtank TS-5 sounds better than my original TS9, modded, and actually better than the maxon. WTF? Believe it. Warm, creamy butter. I only hate it's cheap plastic. But I love to see guys in other bands who are great gtr players shite when the hear me, only to find out at the end of the night, or between sets, what I'm using. hehe. Hey, I don't get endorsements, or free gear to play. So I'm gonna play what sounds good, that I don't have to give limbs for, that miked don't sound ANY better. Overall, I'd give this product an 8. That's impressive since I'm critical, and I'm comparing it to very good stuff that's on the market (albeit very expensive). It's a good sound for the money. And honestly, I learned a long time ago: You cannot take a $100 stomp box, a $200 guitar, and a $200 amp, and expect it to sound like a $2500 rig. You cannot expect a certain holy grail sound from something by using it for something it was NOT made for (OK there are a few exceptions). You CAN, however, use this box and put it with a $2500 rig, and it will hold up miked thru a PA system to a $800 rack unit thru the same rig. For $35 bucks, I feel like I ripped off my friend. But that's what he gave for it off e-bay, so I guess I feel good about it.

It's very liquid and clean.  Lots of range on the speed, and sounds great clean or BEHIND a distortion/overdrive.
Reliability/Durability:
I always liked DOD metal box pedals.  Heavy and flatter than Boss.  I've never broken a switch on one, but I'm not coming down with the heel of my boot, either.  As they get older, the pots can get crackly(due more to NON-use) and the jacks get loose and the battery connection leads get pulled out and somehow people seem to always lose the covers.  I never have, but I've bought used ones with covers missing.  No matter, I use wall warts anyway.  Don't step on the jacks when they are plugged in.
Ease of Use:
Takes a while to figure out what everything does and even longer to explore all the combinations, but that's the beauty of it.  The best settings I think are listed in one of the earlier reviews, with speed being the one you'll play around with the most.  Is this easy?  Difficult?  Depends on how much you like experimenting.
Customer Support:
You used to have to PAY for the manuals, but they have included this manual on their website now.  The outlet store is offline at this time.  There needs to be a better system for PARTS, like knob inserts, the oft-mentioned plastic covers, new pots, etc.  Having to email them and try to describe everything and then get charged an arm and a leg for shipping as well as the overpriced parts is ridiculous.  DOD seems to be focused a bit too much on current product sales, which will NEVER be as high as it would be if they would demonstrate better online support for their discontinued products.  I have six DOD pedals, ALL discontinued.  Now, when the cats buying cheap on ebay now finally break into some money, who are they gonna buy their big-ticket rackmount components from?  Well, DOD, if they've had a good experience all along.  Right now, if I break something, it's better if I just buy another pedal off ebay and use parts from both if that one goes down.
Overall Rating:
I like this pedal because of it's versatility and unique sound compared to other flangers.  Even so, now that I've fixed my old analog DOD Flanger 670, the FX747 has become a great compliment to that.  Having both means less knob tweaking.  I usually set the FX747 for a faster speed, and use the analog one for a slower, wider and noisier flange.

Ease of Use:
you have to sit down to find the settings you want.
Customer Support:
i have never dealt with them
Overall Rating:
i play mostly alternative, modern rock, grunge and other things with with this pedal. If i lost this pedal i will buy another dod fx747. The only flanger pedals i would like to own are maxon fl301, ibanez fl305 and morley saphire flanger, fox tzf and a lovetone ?.
