I use it between a SansAmp PSA1.1 pre and a Eden WT-300 amp. The sansAmp is on high distortion and is very noisy, so the noise gate is very helpful here. Basicly works smoothly, does not cut the tone, but when the signal is not much above threshold, the beginning of the signal can be cut. However, I think all gates work this way and this needs to be considered while playing. The decay could be a bit shorter than the shortest setting available. With this box it is impossible to reach a gated metal guitar sound, because the decay time is too long.
Reliability/Durability:
seems very reliable. I bought it on Ebay, dont know how many used it before. but it looks very old. Still, no problems at all.
Ease of Use:
Two knobs, what can go wrong with that...

Very good for my use. I use it to get rid of the preamp hiss at times when I dont play. but a gated guitar sound cannot be achieved with this noise gate.

Just cuts out sound which is bad. If you need one of these, you should quit music really or lower your gain. Too much gain is the reason for too many rubbish musicians/bands
Reliability/Durability:
Boss = tank
Ease of Use:
Not that easy to use as it does not seem to have any decent settings at all.
Customer Support:
Never

I bought one to see what it can do, then after 5 minutes, I sold it again as I did not need it anyway. I wanted to see if it would be useful for gating or anything but it is not. Just fix your noise at the source i.e. start with yourself.

I'm using this in the EFX loop of my marshall 9004 preamp, and when I turn it on it cuts all hiss and squeel ( the lead channel is noisy). It also helps with getting a gated flange sound, and can be very useful to a lot of other applications.
Reliability/Durability:
I think i can depend on it for a long time to come.
Ease of Use:
Two knobs, and five minutes to set it up. easy? yes it is.

I'd say the NF-1 is a good noise gate. I like this better than the NS-2, but i might buy an NS-2 just to be safe. A good Pedal that's cheap as hell in the used market.

I rate this thing pretty high, i've tried a few other noise gates & keep coming back to this old thing. When set correctly, it doesn't cut your signal off like some other gates - and i notice no noise or tone suckage in bypass
Reliability/Durability:
I've had this thing for so long now, it was made in Japan & it's held up incredibly well. I take care of my gear and this thing still looks nearly new
Ease of Use:
Two knobs, very easy to use!
Customer Support:
The shops that i deal with that sell the Boss products are fine & have helped me out in the past - but honestly im not exactly worried about this unit failing
Overall Rating:
For a noise gate it gets my vote - if you can find one i highly recomend picking it up

i have a horribly noisy amp, the 5150 head is infamous for the amount of of unwanted feedback and hiss it produces. I use simply an EQ pedal in my effects loops and the amp distortion cranked to about 6 (thats like 11 on most other amps) and this GREATLY reduces the hiss and completely eliminates the feedback. I can actually let go of the strings for a bit without worrying about the deafening squeal. Only gripe is that it reduces gain ever so slightly on the most intense settings....which u should be using anyway.
Reliability/Durability:
its an old and used and still works fine.
Ease of Use:
very simple, 2 knobs, on & off.

greta value, picked mine up cheap and used, had it for a year and no complaints.
