OD-1 Overdrive

Not impressed by this pedal. It is muddy and middy. With drive low it is not a good booster. In general it's got the "stuffed a blanket in your speaker" sound. Plenty of way better OD pedals out there, but you'll pay much more for them.
Reliability/Durability:
Great, it's Boss.
Ease of Use:
Easy as: volume and drive
Customer Support:
Never needed them.
Overall Rating:
Look elsewhere if you have the funds. If you don't, save up. I suggest one of the following: Xotic BB preamp, Xotic AC plus or AC booster, Ibanez Tubescreamer, Fulltone OCD, or even the T-rex OD pedal. You'll need a tube amp for these pedals of course.

Ease of Use:
It is very easy to use . Remember what pedal type this is . It is NOT MEANT for certain amps . It is COMPLETELY MEANT FOR OTHER TYPE AMPS i.e amps that have great rhtyhm tones but need that "push into flufy yet mean tone when you crnk her up! .i.e 1981 JCM800 2203 and a BOgner Cab 2001 I run mine on 10 on the volume and 1 on the gain or 0! PERFECTION ! I cant ask for better. of course i own a 1977 matachng MARSHALL HALF STACK HOME TAGS and NOS TUBES . 100% original 1972 MARSHALL SUPERLEAD I use : 1991 Marshall Shredmaster 1991 Marshall Bluesbreaker 1979 Boss OD1 IBanez 1981 TS808

Overall Rating:
PERFECT 10 Great tone for Marshalls that have a beutiful tone ,. IT can be mean and super fluffy pcik attack for lead. If you can roll back get a clean tone . Get e a perfect lead tone and perfect rhtythm tone what else do you want. Im talking strictly thruthe 1975 to 1981 MArshall 2203s and SUhr CUSTOM OD 100 amp ANy amp that has incrdible tone that needs a little push from clean boosting it . YOu can get more out of it if you want OVERDRIVE too if you want.

I give it a 9 here's why. at first I put this  Black label jrc 4558 OD 1 head to head with a Black label SD 1. SD 1 beat it hands down. No question.  After spending what I did on the fabled OD-1 I was determined to get a good sound out of it. Tele into GE-7 Japan into Memory Man Deluxe, into OD-1. Boost in the bass area slight mid cut and this thing was glowing with tube emulation.
Reliability/Durability:
Boss A+++++
Ease of Use:
Two knobs Very easy to use.

After spending some time with it and experimenting with the GE 7 I am very happy with this pedal.

OD-1 Overdrive

Though a bit noisy and though this one is one of the last ever made (JRC chip), I don't have any serious complaints about this Overdrive aside from the fact that it could benefit from a TONE control, just to darken the sound a bit more at higher volumes. I have 3 amps, and it sounds different (obviously) in all 3. One thing in common is that I really really enjoy this pedal with my Les Paul (with burstbuckers) for that Classic rock sound. Some fella complained that at higher volumes, the brightness can prove annoying, especially with this version of the OD-1 compared to older versions with Raytheon chip. I truly endorse this aspect and I find that to really appreciate this pedal, you have to play at lower volumes because it brightens the lower notes quite a bit. It is still one of my main pedals and I'll keep it as long as it will live (if it doesn't outlive me...)
Reliability/Durability:
Hey, it's a BOSS. And it's only 27 years old. I think they have a longer life expectancy than humans.
Ease of Use:
With only two knobs: LEVEL and OVERDRIVE, a monkey considered retarded by its peers could operate it successfully. More seriously, I always tweak the settings of my stomp boxes, depending obviously of which guitar I use.

Overall Rating:
For my classic rock and bluesy stuff, this is one key element in my pedal board. I'll probably add other overdrives but I'll never part with this one. I've been playing (on and off) for 28 years now and I have a few pieces of notable equipment (Gibsons, Tokais, Strats, acoustics, a few amps and many pedals). If this OD-1 were stolen, I'd get another one ASAP, but I'd try to find an earlier version. Also, if someone can point it out to me, I'd like to have a TONE pot installed on this unit, it would help so much...
