This pedal I find to be a very subtle flanger. It's features work well, but a tad difficult to understand. Depth, Rate, and Res are fairly straight forward. Figuring out how to use the manual knob is tricky and kind of the key to success with this thing. Not that it sounds terrible if you don't set it right, but that setting it right sets it apart from good to amazing.
For a wonderful subtle flanging experience, you need to try one of these. It's fantastic for lead lines because if you set it right, it really will leave enough of your signal intact to let the line come through with just some beautiful swirled icing on top. It's truly an effect pedal that makes it self used like effects should be used, tools, not tonal crutches. You can't hide crap playing behind this thing.
I got mine a few years ago works fine, save for the LED is quite dim compared to my modern Boss pedals that sit on either side of it. Not at all a tonal issue, and I will solder in a new one. After 20+ years this thing has been around, I think it's safe to say it's very reliable.
It's a straight forward flanger, except the manual knob.
Haven't had to. Sorry. See reliability score.
It is a fantastic vintage flanger that sounds amazing, just subtly. I have also a Deluxe Electric Mistress as well flanging on many mult-effects unit and modeling amps and nothing sounds as clean and subtle as this one. Boss got it right, I wish they would re-release it.
