Great sound for a subitle clean chours sound. This is not the pedal for you if you are wanting to tweak the spead and rate all the way. At a medium setting the CH-5 works well with distiortion. Just watch high-output pickups....they will distort the input on the pedal.
Reliability/Durability:
Its a BOSS.
Ease of Use:
With the split EQ knob big hands dont make quick transitions.

From light acustic alternitive to distorted grunge this pedal sounds great. I have been able to get a creamier sound out of the pedal by running into an effects box from the 80's called an "801 omnisonic imager" The box makes anything two channels fat. I compaired the CH-5 with the CH-1 and found that the CH-5 better because of the split EQ.

Okay, I run an Ibanez RG220 directly through a Dunlop Crybaby Wah->MXR Flanger(reissue)->MXR Phase 90(reissue) to my Peavey Bandit 112. THen I got my CH-1 pedal and my Boss DD-5 delay runnin' through the effect loop. Works nicely and the chorus just pours out lovely. With this setup I get a nice mix of my favorite players sounds, them being Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, and Ozzy(specifically Zakk Wylde, but all era's of Ozzy I love as well), but retain my own touch throughout. The chorus works great with my distortion, and when clean, shit is just beautiful.
Reliability/Durability:
Thing has worked perfectly each time I've used it. Never screws up, perfect!
Ease of Use:
This pedal is pretty simple....little hard at first, but simple enough. Four knobs(Volume, EQ., Rate, Depth), the book I think comes with some setups for some help, but I don't recall, since I barely looked at it. Just kinda rolled the knobs till I found that sound I wanted. Note...get an adapter for the pedal....it loves batteries!

Overall, I recommend this pedal a lot. Like I wrote, I play a lot of hard rock/metal and this thing works great for the little patches where the guitarists add a little warmth to their passages. Had anything happened to mine, I'd probably go back to this baby.....pretty damn fine pedal. I've been playin' for about 2 yrs. and I've come up with some nice tunes with this pedal. Honestly, if you need a nice chorus pedal, I recommend this baby.....a damn fine thing!

This pedal isn't without it's charm. It adds a bright rich harmonic tone to the high frequency notes and is extremly quiet. But that's just not enough to save it: It's very sterile sounding to me and it's too subtle. I've tweaked it and tweaked it till I found it's deepest sound. It's noticably different when changing from clean, but if I was playing with it on and another guitarist was listening I assure you they wouldn't notice. An effect needs to have a unique sound, not a slight variation on an existing one. Not very thick/lush/wet/warm. The sound thickens up nicely when you've got 2 of these on though.
Reliability/Durability:
Built tough, I've never had a problem with Boss pedals, nice silent switching

I play alternative hard rock like Jane's Addiction. I'd love this baby to be more vintage, so I think I'll trade it eventually for Analogue. Or maybe I'll get another one, because this actually sounds reasonable mixed with my BF-2 flanger, So if I have 2 of them with them both set a little more subtly I'll find that rich sound (?) I can allways try in the shop I guess.
