I'm playing a PRS SantanaSE=> MuffFuzz=> SmallStone=> BD2=> GE7=> Dano PBJ=> PV Classic 30. I get a great overdrive with this thing.  It just slams the front end of the Classic 30.  It gets a little noisy past 1:00, but then again, hey, it is a fuzz unit and if it didn't, I'd be concerned.  The beauty really shines through as you begin to roll the volume back.  It is very wooly with the volume wide open, but the first 1/8th of a turn shaves it right off and leaves you with a nice harmonic rich drive that just melts into your mouth.  Couple that with the Small Stone at about 10:00 and you have tonal bliss.
Reliability/Durability:
This circuit comes wrapped in a rather nice cast metal enclosure.  I do like the silk screening.  The switch seems plenty solid.  The velcro stuck solidly to the bare metal bottom, a nice feature in an era of rubber bottomed effects.
Ease of Use:
This review is for the Nano Muff Overdrive, which is an exact replica of the 1969 Muff Fuzz distortion circuit, and incidentally, exactly 1/2 of the newer Double Muff. One knob, one switch, pretty simple by most peoples standards.  The manual did a good job of describing what we could expect to get out of this little metal box.
Customer Support:
When I picked up my 1978 vintage Small Stone (orange script lettering on bare nickel), I immediately emailed New Sensor and asked customer service how I would go about accurately dating this unit.  I recieved back an informative reply within 8 hours.  This has been my only interaction with the organization, so my rating will reflect as so.  I will say that I have done some research on one Mike Matthews and have been entirely impressed with his tennacity and determination to be #1 in his market, and for almost single handedly revivng the vacuum tube industry.
Overall Rating:
I am mostly a blues and rock junkie.  Although almost anything with a nice melodic fluid lead guitar and singing sustain from overdriven tubes floats my boat.  I like Neil Schon, Neil Young, Angus Youg, Malcolm Young, Uncle Ted, Rush, Cheap Trick, Bad Co., Styx, Billy Squier, Deep Purple, Dio, Zep, Stones, The Darkness, Wolf Mother, Hinder, Skynyrd, Kid Rock.  Been playing for 15 years.  This little pedal will help get that overdriven dirty speaker sound that you have been craving.

I'm using a 2000 Fender American Series Stratocaster with Maple neck into the Muff Fuzz and into a Fender Princeton of solid state design. I have several vintage Electro Harmonix Big Muffs, a vintage Hot Tubes and a vintage Deluxe Big Muff. I bought this when a friend brought it to one of our shows. He brought a bunch of vintage dirt boxes but this one was the best sounding. Like any other Electro Harmonix Muff it is unsuitable for speed metal palm muting but that's it's only limitation. Otherwise, the Muff Fuzz is just the coolest little box on the planet! It is such simple circuitry and instead of transistors it has the confrontational op-amp optic microchip inside. So what does it sound like? uhhh...BIG! LIVELY! CELESTIAL! FAT! Examples might be Aerosmith, Santana, Clapton, Led Zepplin but can also do the Smashing Pumpkins thing as well. I am selling all my Boss pedal (except my Metalzone as I am yet to find a Zoom Tri Metal for my metal tone needs). Seriously, when it comes to non metal overdrives... VINTAGE Electro Harmonix Muff Fuzzes, Big Muffs and Hot Tubes are such a superior choice over any Boss pedal! And I own a vintage 1979 Boss DS-1, vintage Boss HM-2, vintage Boss SD-1, a Boss OD-2, MT-2. I also own a DOD Grunge pedal. All cool pedals, I suppose.... but the Electro Harmonix stuff makes the Boss and DOD stuff sound like pillows are piled all over the amplifier. So if you like a big, bright, raunchy, in your face overdrive that cleans up quickly when the volume is rolled off...well, just try to find one of this.
Reliability/Durability:
Definitely one of the most reliable Electro Harmoix pieces.
Ease of Use:
One knob and one switch!

Ya, I paid a ridiculous $80 for this thing... BUT it sings! Not a scratch on it and no battery acid stains inside. I even have the original screws and the box it came in. It just sat in this guy's music store for 30 years before I got it! I've been playing guitar since 1969 and I play now twice a week in a Christian band. I use the Muff Fuzz on the Sunday night shows and my sound is so ever frikkin cool. Just so ever dynamic! I wish it had.....a foot switch instead of a slider switch! I have to use an A-B box if I want to turn it on and off during a song. Oh, well, I love the compact size. It's smaller than any other pedal I've ever seen!

Pretty good.  Didn't like the fact that it only used a battery, but, now I have a battery clip adapter running from my power supply, and it's at full power at all times...
Reliability/Durability:
It's old - if it's lasted this long, it will keep going.. Metal parts, and wires inside - no cheap plastic and ribbon cables.
Ease of Use:
In my opinion, one of the better Distortions EH has ever made. It has the typical Fuzz harshness, but, if you roll off the top end (or EQ it out) it's a GOOD distortion. Something the Big Muff or Double Muff can't do... Anyway, one knob, one switch...
Customer Support:
Let's be happy that EH stuff rarely breaks.
Overall Rating:
I dig this thing. Like I said, if I could mod it to be less harsh, it would be perfect for me - but for a fuzz, it's perfect.

I run this with a 1982 57' reissue strat and a Marshall JCM 2000. It gets hissy with the gain tweaked full blast, but roll off a c hair and it quiets down with not too much of a difference in saturation. The effect is that of middle of the road 60's dirt. I use it with a clean channel for effect and boost.
Reliability/Durability:
Several years ago, I threw it across a room and stomped on it in frustration. It wasnt giving me what I 'wanted'. At that time I ran it with some cheesy Crate combo amp and an ancient Fender bassman cabinet. But hey, I was wasted at the time. Recently I stumbled upon it, and lovingly cleaned it up. Got some pliers to straighten the body of it. A battery had corroded within the casing, I replaced it and checked the wireing. Too bad I trashed the plastic volume knob. It works fine in spite of my tantrum. My little muff fuzz has been forgiving. I would use this on stage and if it did crap out - oh well...
Ease of Use:
Idiot proof! With one freakin' volume (gain, I guess) knob and an on/off switch it is simple and straight forward. I do not remmember when or where I obtained this crazy little box. I guess it found me!
Customer Support:
Never delt with them.
Overall Rating:
This device is a problem solver for me. I sometimes use it in conjunction with a reissue fuzz face and it helps in two ways. Firstly, the fuzz face is a bit bassy, the muff fuzz gives some brightness. Secondly, I can use my Vox wah (Guitar > wah > muff fuzz > fuzz face > amp) and get the full tone sweep. I realize there are mods to be made but I'm too stupid to use a soldering iron. It can get very wicked very fast with these two devices chained together. Used by itself, its just good ole' fuzz. I like it.

Well, the 2 I owned back in the early 70's were kindof noisy, but the one i just got from good old E-bay is quiet, very quiet, and it's a very old, I think original model.  I used to use a spiral guitar cord, like a phone cord, and this messed up the Muff Fuzz, maybe that's why it was noisy (and why i kept breaking!).  I would echo what others have said - if your guitar volume is max, then you have a fuzzy sustain, but turn back the volume and it cleans up nicely, or just pick lightly and you get clean sound, hammer the note and you have a great overdrive sound.  It's really a way to get a tube amp kind of distortion from a solid state amp...
Reliability/Durability:
Again, they don't make these - you have to find an old one, so watch out.  Pretty simple schematic, though, so not too much can go wrong (gulp - i hope not this time....)  I won't give a numerical rating on a d/c'ed product.
Ease of Use:
Easy ? - if you can't figure THIS one out, you're brain-dead!!  One knob and an on-off  switch. But - there's nuances with the knob that will give you more fuzz or more sustain, so it's really more versatile than meets the eye...

I'm looking on the bay for another, just in case.  If you get a chance to buy one, "try it ... you'll like it"
