Original spruce top, mahogany-stained birch back, mahogany neck (no truss rod...those were added after the A-1s were discontinued in 1918), MOP inlaid "The Gibson" on the headstock, tuners. Replacement bone nut, ebony board, and Cumberland Acoustics ebony adjustable bridge.
This mandolin was made in 1914 and has been played. It has a repaired crack on top (about 3 inches long) just on the trebel side of the fretboard, and the 10th fret is a little high at the E and A strings, but it is a beautiful-sounding little thing with great projection.
Oh, my! She just sings!
She's 96 years old, and she's a beauty.
I'm feeling more confident with her day by day.
She's just about perfect....all I'll ever need. My other babies are a 1960s Del Vecchio Dinamico resonator, a 1961 Guild Starfire III, and a 1967 Guild F-212.
