True Bypass, unique tone switching circuit, harmonic boost, clean boost
This pedal is exceptional. You will get your tone but with boost and/or harmonic enrichment depending upon what you select. It is transparent so that you will sound like you, only better! I use this with a tube amp to open everything up and get a livelier sound. I typically leave it on the entire time I am playing because once you get used to it, the sound is thin without it. Its hard to describe what this pedal does, but once you try it you will love it. Most tone-junkies like me spend a lot of time finding the perfect guitar, tube amp, tubes, strings, finger technique, etc... to get your tone. What you are doing is bringing out the harmonic content of the sound. This pedal can boost all of those subtleties so that you can more easily hear them. Its magic!
Its new and looks as well made as any pedal I have ever seen. Handmade from discrete components. Sturdy metal case. Really tough.
Turn the knobs and enjoy! Sounds good at any setting.
Zak is a great guy who cares tremendously about his products and customers. No worries when you buy from Spaceman.
HARMONIC TONE TONE TONE!
The Mercury III (M3) really enhances every part of the guitar signal. It is by far the LOUDEST boost I have ever played, where most other boost pedals cranked all the way on 10 would be the equivalent to the M3 on 3. I believe Zak said that it has a 30db boost, actually. It has a six-way tone selector switch that lets you choose from different kinds of boosts (two treble, two mid, & two bass boosts). The Harmonics knob is subtle, it adds a bit more depth from one extreme to the other. What is really cool about this pedal is that it is completely discrete (that means no IC's on the circuit board), and has stacked circuit boards. I can't name you many pedals that have stacked PCBs (shumann PLL, thats the only other one I can think of right now, I know there are a few others) but the ones that do are not to be laughed at. A lot of time and effort went into this and it really shows.
Fantastic. I use it with his other pedal, the rumblefuzz, and it really brings it out even more. It is especially cool because the rumblefuzz really likes the bridge pickup more than anything, while it does sound great & beefy on the neck, I feel its a more of a bridge pickup fuzz. If I use one of the treble boosts on the M3 with the rumblefuzz it brings out a whole new tonal possibility on the neck pickup (that I will use, at least). It can also simply boost the clean signal to a more round, dynamic tone, and when it is stacked with another pedal it really shines. The best idea though it to always play it through a tube amp.
Zak does a really great job at making sure everything is top notch, so much in fact that he uniquely uses vinyl face plates, top of the line components (in this particular case some very rare, obscure N.O.S components), and even uses engraved knobs. I don't doubt the durability or reliability of this pedal in the slightest.
3 knobs, 1 stomp switch, and an adjustable LED (for the white & copper editions). Its pretty simple to figure out.
the M3 comes with a 3 year warranty and lifetime discounted repair plan. Zak is a cool guy and really cares about his products, so I don't foresee anything crippling happening to this pedal.. at all.
The degree of perfectionism in the world of Spaceman Effects is unparalleled. It is a great, versatile boost that goes far beyond the term "jack of all trader master of none". I would go so far to say it is the "ace of all trades", if I could make up terms. I'll be sticking with everything Spaceman 'till its bleeding out my ears.
