I bought mine off of ebay for 60 dollars. It had a terrible scratch noise when I moved the pedal up and down. I connected behind my TU-2 boss tuner and it mysteriously dissappeared (though when put in a line without the tuner is still has the scratch). Now it is a very good pedal. Has a knob that allows you to choose how much range of volume you want the pedal to give you. Works really well.
Reliability/Durability:
I bought it broken off of ebay and fixed the problem myself, so I can't tell you if it will hold. It looks like it's built like a tank, but who knows... boss builds them tough, but since I got it broken, I would read a different review for this department.
Ease of Use:
VERY EASY
Customer Support:
don't use it
Overall Rating:
It's a great volume/expression pedal. The knob that lets you control the range of volume you can control is VERY USEFUL.

I`ll be frank - mine started make tweeting sounds in less then a month of usage. I even once used it onstage to exchange licks with a harp player. The other problem (and solution) below.
Ease of Use:
Customer Support:
I`d love be a customer support myself now! :) If you ever experience "gravitation problems", like our brother told us at the top of this page - just tighten a bit the BIG BOLT (SCREW? how do you call them?..) in the very center of the upper surface. It holds a metal plate, which is stuck in the oily connection between two moving parts. To reach the bolt`s head you`ll have to take off the bottom surface (with the 7 small screws:) Do it immediately, because if you let the big bolt go out it will be more difficult (but still possible) to put the whole thing together again. Uuhhh, xcuse my English

Since I use this pedal more for my expression-movement than for an simple volume-pedal I really don´t know if it does color the sound itself... ( haven´t bother to check it out either... sorry ! ) I use it as a expression-pedal to my double setup of gx-700... as it have got double inputs/outputs it´s perfect to use with my FX:s... now I can control the distorsion ( or whatever... )in one of them and also control the delay-feedback ( or whatever... )in the other fx...
Reliability/Durability:
Now here´s the bad part of it ! since I have used my pedal in some years now it "slip" each time I use it... when I´m having it in up-position, heel down, and step of the pedal it will fall down to the half-position, in between... ( duh ! ) ( it´s all OK in the down-position, toe down, but that ain´t strange ´cause it is the gravity on earth which is working here... ) of course you can expect this after some years of use since nothing last forever... but it´s annoying ´cause it isn´t something you can fix yourself... ( more than for "saving" the gig maybe with duct-tape ) and it´s an quite "large" thing to change too... since it is that part which does the whole thing in this pedal... the upside ( if you want to look at it that way... )is that it does a movement by itself ( down to the half )when you´ve stepped of it... and of course you can count THAT in when you doing your expression changes... but I rather prefer to do that movement myself and having the pedal staying wherever I want it to stay...
Ease of Use:
Well... you have two inputs and two outputs... ( which speaks for themselves how to use ! ) and you also got one output for a tuner... The only control you have on this pedal is the volume knob... which is good ´cause you can use this to set the minimum level... in other words you can use it to "play" like an viola... ( you know... just like you do with the volume-knob on your guitar !)
Customer Support:
Never dealt with them... but I think it´s stupid that a company such BOSS/ROLAND which stomp-pedals ( and multiprocessors )are good and often used by many musicans... doesn´t have any manuals downloadable from internet... I think this makes some people who´s interested in some of BOSS/ROLAND products might skip just these products in favor to some other similar fx:s from other companies... ´cause they can get any "important" information about these fx:s that they maybe need...
Overall Rating:
well... I must say that this simple unit has served me well these years I´ve had it... but it´s doesn´t work that well anymore... and I need to find an other expression-pedal which can stand MANY years of heavy use... or at least have some more easy solution whenever it breaks... ( maybe like an potentiometer in your wah-wah you´ll change when it starts to crackle... ) sure maybe I can replace this part myself on this pedal... but the thing is that I need to find it first... ( and that might be harder to do... )

FV-300L Volume Pedal

I occasionally use a GR-30 guitar synth and use the stereo volume pedal to control the mix directly into the P>A> It is extremely clean sounding.
Reliability/Durability:
Here's the problem! The shaft on the internal pot is highly polished and the set screw which connects the operating arm fails to grip it properly. After just minimal use the screw slips and changes the adjustment making each press of the pedal a bit quieter than the last.
Ease of Use:
very easy to use when working correctly.
Customer Support:
Dealer suggested Lok-Tite....didn't work. Tied tape around shaft and that also slipped. Now I control the synth volume from the onboard GK2 pickup...The Boss Volume Pedal is back in the box on the shelf.
Overall Rating:
I have been playing rock, blues, country, originals, covers, etc. for 35 years and have over the years accumulated tons of equipment.

FV-300L Volume Pedal
Review By:
Paul Knight

Reviewer Background:
Purchased From:
Price:
DEM165.00 DEM
Features:
Sound Quality:
This section is not particularly relevant, other than to say that the pedal is mechanically quiet in operation and does not produce any excess line noise.
Reliability/Durability:
The FV-300L looks and feels like a piece of ex-military surplus equipment the metal case is absolutely rock-solid and should withstand lots of wear and tear. Like all BOSS pedals, the FV-300L is built to last and you should be able to rely on it 110%. I chose the FV-300L instead of the BOSS FV-50L or Roland EV-5 pedals which are up to 40% cheaper, but also less robust. I think it was worth paying the extra money for the FV-300L because I doubt that it will ever breakdown on me. The plastic-bodied FV-50L and EV-5 pedals should be OK for light duty use however.
Ease of Use:
The FV-300L may be used as either a volume pedal or an expression pedal with a guitar or up to two keyboards simultaneously and the various connection setups are all covered in the instruction sheet provided. The pedal is extremely easy to use after all, there is only a single control a volume knob which enables the effect level of the pedal movement to be adjusted. Two input and two output jacks are provided, together with a tuner output. Some or all of the connections will be required, depending on how you use the pedal. I use the pedal as an expression pedal to control a variety of functions, including the arpeggiator, on my Roland keyboard. However the pedal can be used equally well as a stereo volume pedal or regular expression pedal with most guitar or keyboard setups.
Customer Support:
Never needed to contact them, and don't expect to need to either. My other dealings with BOSS (product info, catalogue requests etc.) have been OK though.
Overall Rating:
The FV-300L provides excellent value for money coupled with the outstanding build quality shared by all BOSS pedal products. I would definitely buy it again if it got lost or stolen I defy anyone to try and break it ! Incidently, the BOSS FV-300H pedal is the high impedance version of the FV-300L, but is otherwise identical and so the same comments apply.
