My set-up is a Diezel VH4 head with two 2/12" Mesa cabinets (one open, one closed). I also have a TC Electronic G-Force, TC Electronic D Two Delay, Sherman Filterbank 2, BBE Sonic Maximizer, customized Dunlop Wah Pedal also with Roger Mayer upgrade, and a PRS Custom 22. I didn't put the Robotalk in my effects loop yet, so I'm not sure how that would turn out. The Robotalk is true bypass and it will not affect your tone when the effect is off. The Robotalk is 2 effects in one pedal: Envelope follower and Random Arpeggiator. Both effects are superb. The envelope follower has a pure analog sound as does the Arpeggiator. The Arpeggiator sounds best with the frequency turned up. There is a slight poppy sound when the frequency is turned up, but I'm sure if I play with my other settings, I can minimize it. Check out their website and Paul Jackson Jr's demo. He does an excellent job of showcasing the Robotalk's sounds. The envelope follower is a commonly used effect and it is one of the best I've heard. The closest thing the Arpeggiator sounds like is a keyboard. You can easily use it for dance music or spacey stuff.
Reliability/Durability:
I've had the Robotalk for one day. It seems very sturdy and well assembled. I don't forsee any issues with it. I would definetly gig without a backup. The Robotalk needs two power adaptors. I'm not sure how many batteries are needed, but you'll probably need to have some extra ones available.
Ease of Use:
The Robotalk is extremely easy to use. There's only 4 knobs and I think it would be difficult to get a bad sound out of it. This is one of the few effects I own that I spend more time actually playing guitar than tweaking the pedal. I have version 2 of the Robotalk and this has the power adaptors and LED light for when the effect is on. The manual is 1 page, and you will not need it since the pedal is very easy to use.
Customer Support:
Haven't had to deal with them. I've found that you are more likely to run into service issues with bigger companies as you tend to sometimes get lost in the shuffle. I bought it from Pedalgeek.com and they are great. I got the pedal 2 days after I ordered it and got a free T-Shirt.
Overall Rating:
I play modern hard rock, blues, some jazz, and spacey stuff. I've been playing for 15 years. This pedal is a keeper and I plan on having it for a long time. It would be nice if there was an LED to indicate which effect is engaged so you know ahead of time if you need to do one or 2 stomps to get the desired effect. It's really a minor thing though. You could also enhance the pedal by having more control over the frequency, ADSR, etc, but that would take away from the simplicity and instant gratification you get from the unit. The Robotalk is a little pricy, but I'll have alot of fun with it. This will definetly inspire you to create some cool stuff.
