I am using this on a pedal board with a few other drives/distortions through an EL34 based tube combo with 1-12" speeker. It sounds great through my rig although I would call it a hot overdrive rather than an all out distortion. One of the most important aspects for me when it comes to drive pedals is the low end. Is is tight? is it flabby? is there not enough of it? It is more important on a 3 knob pedal without the option of a dedicated bass knob. On this RD1 the bass is focused, tight and voiced well and the volume is good. Once again someone actually thought this pedal out before just soldering components together. The distortion voice is a Marshall sort of grind. I like the sound of it. It could do with just a bit more gain but the pedal is quiet as is so I'm going to accept it as is. Good job! Maybe the distortion could be called a tad generic but it sounds different than my version 1 OCD, Xotic BB or the Barber LTD Silver. It is a tad between the new Dan Electro CoolCat Co1 drive and the BBE American Metal (both good pedals.)
Reliability/Durability:
No previous experience with DeltaLab
Ease of Use:
Decent tone right from the start with this one. I think by now that every body is familiar with the 3 knob layout which has been a standard for ( too many years! ) Just tweek till you get your desired tone, simple, effective and cheap. Very easy battery access and the pyramid jewell led is bright and looks good too. Nice rubber padded bottom and,,, the pedal has some weight to it too! AC in is on the top side out of the way of the in and out jacks just where I like it. Somebody actually put some thought into the build and quality of this product. I don't understand why there are not more reviews for this RD1. I feel it is a good value compared to some of the other pedals I have purchased over the years.

Overall Rating:
The price is right the build quality is great and the looks and sound are spot on for my current rig. I am constantly switching out pedals on my board but this one has managed to stay on there for about a year now. I would purchase this RD1 again if I needed to, no problem. I have paid 6 times the price of this pedal for other drives that did not even come close to this. Like I stated before.. someone actually planned this pedal out well before putting it into production. I guess thats why it is a dedicated Guitar Center brand they don't want to be associated with somthing that would turn out to be garbage. I have been a player for over 40 years and have about 30 pedals.

This one sounds real good to ME. I have a lot of other pedals to compare it to and it does have its own tonal voice and mixes very well with everything that is on my pedalboard as of present. I consider overdrive and distortion pedals to be similar to wine, collecting as each one is just a bit different the other. They all seem to have their own voice. The RD1 seems to have a bit of the Marshall sound. To me it seems to be more of a high gain drive rather than an all out distortion. It is not lacking on bass which is always a concern for me as I hate thin sounding pedals. It actually ends up being just the right amount of drive for my playing, I keep the gain up at about 70% and the tone on the dark side and at that setting it is nice and quiet and smooth sounding. This pedal is articulate and responds to your pick attack very well. I am currently running my pedal board through a GenzBenz El'Diablo 30/60 TUBE combo. The RD1 sits next to last in line next to a Fulltone version 1 OCD and before it is a Barber LTD Silver. I have an extensive pedalboard and generally have 6 grind boxes onboard as I do a lot of tone stacking. I can't see gitting rid of this RD1 as it sounds great with my rig.
Reliability/Durability:
I will not rate this as I have no prior experence with this brand.
Ease of Use:
Volume, tone and gain... could not be much simplier. This one sounded good right out of the box for me. Because of the price I was expecting a cheaply made pedal but was impressed by the weight, build quality and features. I will give it a 9 ONLY because there is nothing more than the 3 knobs to sculpt sound. As of lately a lot of pedal builders are including extra switches and or knobs to change the drive voicing or somthing similar. Extra tones are always good but this pedal delivers a standard drive/distortion with no bells or whistles. A solid pedal non the less.
Customer Support:
No opinion, (see above)
Overall Rating:
Hardwire bypass, easy battery access, BRIGHT pyrimid led, tight quality knobs, not too big and not too small, AC in is on the top of the unit (out of the way where I like it.) Nice sturdy bottom rubber pad, looks cool and sounds great.. I think you know where I am going with this. What astounds me is "where are the other reviews for this pedal?" In my opinion this is a steal when I compare it to some of my other more expensive drives..Xotic BB, Fulltone GT500, Digitec Hardwire Tube Drive, OCD...ect, ect.

This is another area where this pedal shines, very well voiced, nice bass and treble. The tone control works just as it should giving you plenty of options of dark tones to bright and trebly. To me it seems to be more of a high gain drive rather than an all out and out distortion tone but it has that Marshall type quality (atleast through my amp.) It's a classy sounding pedal and with blinders on I am quite sure you would not know it was a lower priced unit. It has a different tonal quality than my OCD but sounds just as good in it's own way! Responds to pick attack very well and is quite articulate. It has been on my pedalboard for a few months now and I will be keeping it there. I have a variety of drives some of which I keep on my pedalboard and some I use from time to time (switching them out as I need them.) These pedals include the Fulltone OCD (1st version), Fulltone GT500, Boss DS1, Digitech Hardwire Tube Drive and Bad Monkey, Xotic BB and RC, Barber LTD Silver, MXR Classic Distortion and Fullbore Metal, Frantone Peachfuzz, Barber Direct Drive, BBE American Metal (which is actually a higher gain distortion rather than a metal pedal.) I list these pedals not to brag about what I have but to tell you what other pedals I am comparing this DeltaLab pedal too and believe me it hangs with the best of them. I do tone stacking with these pedals combining 2 or sometimes 3 drives to get a desired tone. I don't know where the other reviews for this pedal are. This is a great pedal.. I like mine a lot.
Reliability/Durability:
Seems very well built but never having owned any other DeltaLab products I don't feel I should rate this.
Ease of Use:
Everything you need and nothing you dont. Typical 3 knob layout which I always worry about. Until you hear a pedal with your own rig its hard to tell if it will work or not. For me it is generally the bass..or lack of it which makes or breaks a pedal for me.. also the tightness and quality of the bass notes themselves. After swearing off 3 knob drive pedals a while back I am finding myself purchasing a few here and there. Typically I prefer a 4 knob layout, gain, volume, bass, treble (like my Xotic RC and BB. ) I am so glad that (for my rig) this pedal is voiced perfectly! Another nice feature for me is the ac in (whch is located on the top of the unit) this keeps it away from the instrument in and out. The size of the pedal is perfect, not too large and not too small. Volume, tone and gain knobs are nice and firm just like them! I was also surprised of the weight of this pedal as its every bit as heavy as my Fulltone OCD. I must also mention the very bright pyrimid shaped LED. Seems very well built too. Nice non-slip rubber bottom pad and very easy battery access. Taking into concideration the very fair price of this pedal I really can not think of anything to complain about or anything I would change.
Customer Support:
Once again (No Opinion) based on never having had any contact or history with DeltaLab.
Overall Rating:
I play mostly rock instrumentals. Record and produce my own CDs, currently working on #8. Have been playing guitar over 40 years. My main guitar is a customized Strat. The amp I am currently running my pedalboard through is a GenzBenz El'Diablo combo (tube amp.) Yes, I would purchase this pedal again without a doubt. I like EVERYTHING about this pedal and it needs nothing else. It looks cool, sounds cool and works as it should.

The first thing I noticed when I picked up the box was "boy this thing has some weight to it" or maybe it was just a lead lined box! whatever. When I got home and took it out of its packaging I realized this thing is as heavy as my OCD and weighs more than my Xotic BB. I love weighty pedals! so far so good. Construction seems good too. Upon plugging it in I was met with a (bright) blue led. I went ahead and integrated onto my pedalboard for comparison aginst a few of my other pedals, a 1st generation OCD, stock DS1, Xotic BB, Hardwire tube drive, MXR distortion, (just what was on my board at the time.) Getting down to the nitty gritty this pedal even now (6 months) afted I purchased it sounds fantastic! It has not left my pedalboard. Not the most high gain or too low gain it falls somewhere in the middle but has its own sonic Marshall type character it fills a tonal gap for me and brought me back to the realization that if a pedal it truely voiced right 3 knobs are enough. It seems quiet, articulate, tight well voiced bass, takes pick attack well and volume changes too. Basically, I can afford any pedals I want but I am thinking of purchasing the DeltaLab overdrive. I am that happy with this product. I play through a Genz Benz El'Diablo combo (tube amp.) My only electric guitar is a modified strat with an EMG SA pickup system with mib boost knob.
Reliability/Durability:
I do not gig out but I do record at home. This pedal seems very well built and I am relying on my own 40 years buying pedals to rate this product. Its cheap enough to buy another if it does bite it!
Ease of Use:
This is the typical 3 knob layout, gain, tone, volume. Exactally what I said I would never purchase again! I have become spoiled with the dedicated treble and bass knobs on some of my more expensive dirt boxes. But, I saw this box in Guitar center (I think the only place it is sold) and I thought it looked rather cool and the price was right too, and.. because I only own about 15 other distortions/drive pedals.. what the heck I thought I would bring it home to meet the other kids in the family. I did not play through it in the store or check it out in any other way, I just bought it and brought it home. I was not expecting a lot from it, I figured at that price if it even made any sound at all I would have to be ok with it.
Customer Support:
No opinion here but I am assuming Guitar Canter will back this product up.
Overall Rating:
At 52 yrs. old I play instrumental rock mostly but dabble in almost any style. Been a guitar player for over 40 yrs. Record at home and make my own full length cd'S (with no help from anyone.) This DeltaLab has not made it onto any recordings yet, I am still a bit burnt out from my last cd but, I do plan on using it quite a bit. It is my opinion that this RD1 deserves a 9 overall. I am saving the 10 for somthing I do not own yet.

Frankenstrat>TU2>RD1> Fender Blues Deluxe. Not noisy at all, plus true bypass so no tone loss when not in use. This is one of those cases where you don't have to pay a lot of money for something awesome. I've owned pedals that were 4-5 times more expensive than this one that didn't sound as good I don't know if it's just the combination of this pedal and my Blues Deluxe but I get some VERY Marshally tones out of this. If you're looking for a solid classic rock distortion, try this pedal out

Gain, Tone, Level. Very easy to use. If you've ever used a distortion box before, it's the same layout.

I play at Church and help with our youth worship team, also classic rock, blues and country. This pedal IS rock. Playing for 10 years, I've owned so much good gear. right now all I have is my strat, blues deluxe and RD1 If this were stolen I would bye another in a heartbeat. My favorite spot on this thing is gain 3oc, tone 12oc, level 3oc If you go to GC and try these out, make sure you run it in front of a decent amp, not the crappy practice amp they have all the pedals hooked up to. I'm so impressed with this pedal that this is the first review I've ever written.
