well this is very subjective..it depends what you're looking for in a fuzz..but i love it.. i gotta get around to reviewing some of my other pedals 'cos i love 'em..but here goes a list of my oversized pedal board, setup (for now) is: Fender Highway One Tele > Ibanez tuner > old CryBaby GCB-95 (favourite wah, no extra tunable options, just already great sounding wah, early 90s and still no problems, no scratchy pot, nothing, but that's for another review) > Ibanez AW7 autowah > Catalinbread Serrano Picoso > Digitech Whammy > Keeley modded Ibanez TS9 > Visual Sound Jeckyl&Hyde > MXR Blue Box > K.S.Aji FU-223 > Catalinbread Ottava Magus > Boss PH1-r (beat up 80s pedal still kickin' ass) > Ibanez PM7 phase modulator > two Boss DD-20s > VOX AC30 Custom Classic head and Orange 412 cab now..this fuzz pedal is based on the Tone Bender MK3..but with a few improvements and modern boutique build quality..so it has quality components and is all handmade, only helping to improve the sound ..this is great late 60s/early 70s fuzz..if you want it, modern mass produced clones of that era's fuzz pedals fall way short..and most boutique pedals are probably out of most people's price range (especially for pedal junkies like me) ..this has that fuzz tone.. and with loads of output, i've only very briefly put the volume past 12 o'clock.. with the fuzz knob dimed everything is deliciously hairy.. and sustains for ages.. things get a little less fuzzy rolling down the volume on your guitar..on lower fuzz settings it cleans up pretty well..but i wasn't after that in a fuzz anyway ..all the knobs have a good range and noticeable differences throughout..not like some pedals that have two sounds: one to the left of 12 o'clock, one to the right.. it doesn't always get along well with my other pedals..which makes for some great crazy oscillation and tremolo things going on ..if you're after that hairy 60s/70s fuzz this pedal has it..fantastic solo tone..sounds amazing pushing an octave fuzz .. a little noisy with fuzz all the way up, but hey, if you've got it set at that you wanna be dirty anyway..just keep playing
Reliability/Durability:
i have only had it a month and a bit.. MXR size metal case..looks and feels like it'll hold up to anything for a long long time..and also, it's handmade, that makes me trust it more too.. i am going to be buying a second..not because it's unreliable..but it does use rare transistors so it could be a limited thing and i love it so much i don't want to ever be left without it on my board
Ease of Use:
well..it has the three knobs you're used to on most fuzz/dist/od pedals ..volume, fuzz and tone.. actually most of the classic fuzzes don't have the tone knob, and i must say it is a very welcome addition ..very easy to dial in good sounds
Customer Support:
haven't needed support for it but this is just one guy making these pedals..i have emailed him..very friendly and can tell he loves what he's doing..i'm sure he would be very helpful if i ever had any problems
Overall Rating:
i wanted that classic fuzz sound, but i don't play classic music..i play modern rock..influenced by bands like He Is Legend, Trophy Scars, Circa Survive and Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster..with atmospheric stuff often thrown in ..so this is a versatile pedal 'cos i love it for this style of music too, when obviously this type of effect was made for classic rock.. fell in love with the sounds i got from this straight away..made me wanna play for hours ..if it were lost or stolen i would already have a backup 'cos i don't wanna be without it.. support this guy..check out his work..his stuff his great ..his analogue delay is beautiful and his Blues Creamers sound so cool i'm pretty sure by the end of the year one of them will have replaced my tube screamer can't give it 10 out of 10 'cos nothing's perfect and it's all subjective.. but if you want that classic fuzz tone in bucket loads that is affordable and won't take up crazy space (like a f*zz f*ce) ..this is the pedal.. get one
