Has the essential features, only downer is the odd choice of power plug!

Some people do not like the DOD idea of a battery door either.

Sound Quality:

Really decently quiet. The action of the compressor is responsive, I have used

much more expensive ones that are not any better. Can produce some noise

and pumping if pushed to extremes.

Reliability/Durability:

Bought used 3 years ago, never a moments trouble.

Overall Rating:

Really great "for the money" as you can score them used for $25 and they are totally

usable - better than using a guitar compressor like the Dynacomp on a bass.

I also have the MXR Limiter from the 80's, and it compares decently to that unit.

the MXR is nicer, more transparent, but it originally cost 3 times as much! And you

won't see one used for the price of these.

FX82 Bass Compressor

My setup is as follows: I put a variety of axes (squier '51, agile valkyrie, ibanez roadstar, homemade tele) into Erine Ball VP jr. volume pedal -> guyatone wr3 wah rocker -> DOD fx-82 bass compressor -> DOD fx-52 classic fuzz -> mxr phase 90 (r28 mod) -> modded Boss DS-1 distortion -> Boss BF-2 flanger -> Nobels TR-X tremolo -> ibanez DE7 delay -> ibanez BCL bi-mode chorus -> peavey classic 50 head into either a closed back 4x12 cab or an open back 2x12 cab. I use this pedal as a booster for leads.  For this purpose it does the job well.  I set the volume @ 3:00, and release and compression @ 9:00.  Set this way it provides a slight volume boost & fattening of my tone.  I also like how it adds drive to my dirt pedals.  No extra noise is present (how I set it anyways), & I can't really say how it acts as a compressor.  Sounds great for my purpose, but I'm sure there's something better
Reliability/Durability:
DOD pedals have 4 major design flaws: 1) non-standard 1/8" negative adapter jack (luckilly for me I have converters for using my DOD pedals with my pedalboard's power suppply) 2) Flimsy plastic switch 3) Knob inserts fall off easily 4) battery cover is lost easily (not an issue for me since I use a power supply) However, I must say that DOD pedals are built tough, they just really screwed up on their footswitch design.  I will give this pedal credit though as it must be at least 12-14 years old, and it is still in perfect working condition.  I've also never had footswitch problems with any of the DOD's i've owned, (knock on wood) but I have heard many horror stories. Also it's annoying that you have to buy adaptor pluds when using this with a power supply or some sort of daisy chain.  I could also see how the battery user, could easily lose the battery cover, and have the battery connector damaged.  Yet, I will repeat that I have experienced no problems
Ease of Use:
Three knobs:  Volume and Compression are self explanatory, the release knob doesn't really seem to do that much (very limited range).  Still it's pretty easy to use
Customer Support:
Old discontinued pedal, which I bought used.  I've never needed company support, but I'm sure they don't really service these pedals anymore.  they still do have all the old manuals online though
Overall Rating:
I play a mixture of punk, rock, funk, blues, and noise.  I really like how this pedal performs as a boost, and that it was really inexpensive. Compared to overdrives that I've previously used as boosters (DOD od 250, Ibanez TS-9(808 mod), Boss SD-1), this sounds more transparent.  If it broke ar got stolen, I would definetely get another one (if I could find one for so cheap), or possibly try a different compressor or clean boost.  Like I stated earlier it performs very well for how I use it.

Using on Rickenbacker 4003 bass and a P-bass copy.  sinal path is bass--tuner--EHX mini qtron--DOD compressor--Ashdown amp (EB15).  The pedal creates a little background noise but it is not a problem and not noticable when recording.  I use the pedal to keep the levels of the bass contant which works great for recording.  It also does a good job of keeping level when the q-tron is turned on in check, as the filter sweep from the q-tron can cause a slight volume boost. I usally have the release time set to max to keep the compression smooth and to suit the long wave lengths of bass signals.  I set the compression amount to about 10'oclock (between 1/3 and 1/2 of the amount of compression).  I then set the level so that the output is not overloading the input of my bass amp (easy to do with the LEDs on the ashdown).
Reliability/Durability:
Hasn't let me down.  I gig without a backup.
Ease of Use:
Its fairly easy to use as there are only three controls, but as someone mentioned, you need to know a bit about compression to get the most out of it.
Customer Support:
Havn't dealt with them or needed to so no opinion
Overall Rating:
I think this is a great pedal and gives me a nice sound while keeping the levels of my bass in check.  This was in the display case of a music shop - i think it had been there for years, I was looking for a cheap compression pedal and saw it so gave it a try.  It was only £30 so i think i got a bit of a bargain, espically when compared to other similar pedals such as Boss which sell at about £70.  I recommend this for any bass players that don't have compressors as it can help your sound and playing levels.

I use this pedal on my Yamaha RBX-5 5 string, and my fretless Jazz bass.  I also use it for 6 string guitar and it works very well.  I use it for recording as well as performance.   It is very quiet and smooth sounding.  I mainly use it for a bit of boost into my bass tube amp so that the overdrive is steady.  I also use it as a limiter when recording slap style.
Reliability/Durability:
Had it for 13 years, not a lick of trouble.
Ease of Use:
Pretty easy to use, although you do need to understand how compression and limiting works.  The manual actually has some good examples to get you started.

Overall Rating:
I play everything except country and classical.  I have been playing for 15 years, and have used this pedal more in the last 5 years because I understand more about how it helps the signal with recording.

Very simple unit, very straight forward operation.  Bought used, looking like it was new, in its box, with manual, and even the DOD sticker.
