Great pedal

10 band eq and a big boost from the level slider

Sound Quality:

This thing sounds very good, the boost is very useful too. Very quiet also. Instantly has become one of my favourite pedals, to help steer the preamp a bit more, and/or as a boost. There is nothing tinny about the sound-just good fat pumping up of whatever frequency you choose to slide. I feel also it keeps my bass's character alive (handbuilt active 4 string) - doesn't color the tone that much. Quite musical, to me

Reliability/Durability:

Mine is one of the old series, from 1986-88. Really built like a tank, indestructible like they aren't today. Mine arrived in the mail dirty and grimey and busted up badly-and it sounded very clean and quiet, not even the slightest crackling in one of the sliders. Of course you will have lost the crappy battery door, as always with DOD. But for this little money...

Ease of Use:

As said, 10 frequency band sliders and a level (boost) slider-what's there to be complicated about?

Customer Support:

well, it's old and discontimued

Overall Rating:

I really want to recommend this pedal-they are to be had really cheap, and playing a good quality active bass through a clean sounding power amp as I do, my main gripe with most cheapo pedals is that they cheapen the sound of a good instrument. This pedal does not sound cheap at all, it rather reinforces the character of whatever is there already; it is tough as nails, to boot. I am really impressed with this thing.

Your problems will be a lost battery door (oh well) and that silly 1/8 plug for the adapter. Nothing a $2.99 GC adapter can't fix, though. The best 20 dollars I ever spent on gear, seriously

this pedal is really something, it gives an awesome array of tonal posibilities and the slight boost that givs to the signal really adds some heat to the sound. With this you can get into any mix. the user that just reviewed this gave ti a 7 cause it changes the tone... isn't that the point of an eq pedal? it shines right after a big muff or bass overdrive, and paired with a decent compressor it really gives you a hard, full body tone. I love the way it behaves with an active bass, too. A really powerfull, hot signal out of this tank
Reliability/Durability:
mine is a VERY USED one, with several "pass of time" scars (i.e. the little cover for the battery came of past century and the ac jack is gone to f*ck, but it still delivers great tones and great, full sound. The sliders is the only thing that might be not very tough, but i'm not a monkey to my gear. If, old and wear down as it is, still gives great sound in a consistent manner, I don't expect any trouble in the future. Hate the miniplug to power it, though. I'll definitely adapt this to a standard "boss-like" ac jack.
Ease of Use:
what is there to add, is a graphic EQ, so go figure.

overall, a great eq that gives, well, any tone you like. Tweek it bad and you'll get a piece of crap sound. No mystery about it. Find your tone, leave it on and forget about it. It really helps to fatten up distortion and overdrive, and I love the mids it has. The frecuency range is very in the low mid area, besides the very lower low and higher high. Great pedal!!

FX42-B Bass EQ

I used this pedal with my Peavey Milestone III four strings bass guitar with a Peavey Basic sixty (a beginner bassist setup). It a little noisy. No way with this noise. It changes your bass natural tone also. I used this pedal with a FX 80... This two pedals can give you a decent sound working toghether. No more than that. I will sound just decent, you won´t sound as you want. What you want for 50$?
Reliability/Durability:
It works good, because DOD makes excellent things. But probably you won´t use it for a long time. The noise this pedal sends to your amplifier is horrible. A good thing! It comprimes the sounds too, you can get a nice compression if you needs. Well, I used the DOD FX 42 for a year, but now I get an Ibanez BE 10 as equalizer. I prefer Ibanez so far. FX 42 is a nice beginning, but believe me, you´ll want change you sound. Not bad for a 30$ pedal, but if you can get something better, don´t doubt. Wait for a better oportunity...
Ease of Use:
Really easy... Just eight slide knobs, seven for equalization, one for level. No more for explain. Who needs an user manual for an equalizer?
Customer Support:
No. The quality of DOD´s products is great.
Overall Rating:
I play mainly funk, jazz & metal. I never used any pedals before this, I brought the FX 42 because this the cheaper way to introducing to bass guitar pedals. I have been playing with this pedal almost a year. I had a DOD FX 80 compressor/sustainer too. An another beginner´s pedal. Well, right now, I tested another pedals, so... If somebody stole my DOD FX 42, I wouldn´t get it again (I sold this pedal a week ago...). It gave me a nice surprise when I started to play because it comprimes the signal too. I think the slides are weak. I compares it to an Ibanez BE 10. Maybe Ibanez won´t give you the presence what DOD can give you, but the first one can gives you a cleaner sound (without noises) and won´t change your bass tones. I was looking a pedal what can do this work. Ibanez is better for me, but remember, DOD isn´t a bad choice at the beginning.

I mostly use this in a studio setting with a Mexican Precision bass, paired with a Boss LMB-3 limiter/enhancer. MY bass typically goes right into the board using a Whirlwind Direct Box. Not very noisy, unlss you boost some of the higher frequencies. I would say this pedal is on about 50% of the time, either when I need to add some more natural, subtle fatness (without using the board, which sometimes sounds a bit artificial to me) or have to make some kind of tonal change in between parts of a song. It is a pedal I think would be very useful live, specifically for this purpose. Essentially, an EQ sounds about as good as your ability to tweak it. It gives you 18 decibels of boost/cut per frequency, and a level control, but I find it does a much better job when boosting/cutting is kept within 3 or 4 decibels.
Reliability/Durability:
Feels very solid and reliable, but I have a few qualms. The plastic sliders seem like they might break easily if used live regularly. I think the sliders on Boss EQ pedals would probably prove more durable. Also, the sliders are very open, and always seem caked with dirt and dust inside the track. Pedals I have used live are all grimey and cruddy, and no doubt all that crap would work its way into the sliders on the DOD pretty easily.
Ease of Use:
Well, it's a pedal...so those of you with some level of education will understand the on/off concept. Basically, it functions no differently than any other graphic EQ.

Overall Rating:
I like Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Charlatans, Blur, The Who, The Animals, Wilco, etc etc etc. I've been playing guitar about 14 years, and bass steadily for about 6 or 7. Basically, it's a great tool, as any EQ is. If I played bass live regularly again, I wouldn't be averse to including it in my live setup if I needed to make tonal changes on the fly.
