Sounds fantastic! This is the second time I've owned this pedal, with this same mod. In stock form prior to the Plus Mod, this pedal wasn't really that bad, although it did suck tone slightly and became rather noisy at the slightest volume increase. After the mod, this pedal is dead quiet and really allows you to tailor your sound by using it as an EQ, or just a simple clean boost with tons of noiseless headroom. I use it after my distortion to tweak the output signal. My effects chain is as follows; H/S/S American Strat into an Area 51 equipped Vox V847 > Korg PB-01 tuner > Barber Tone Press Comp > MI Audio Blues Pro > Barber Direct Drive > MI Audio Crunch Box Distortion > Boss DC-3 Digital Dimension > Diamond Halo Chorus > Boss DD-20 Digital Delay > Hardwire RV-7 Digitech Stereo Reverb > running in stereo to two Egnater Rebel 20 heads into two custom single 12 cabinets equipped with Celestion G12H30s. I've tried various boutique boost pedals, and spent a great deal of time and money trying to find just the right combination of EQ and boost pedal all in one, and this puppy is it. Highly recommend this pedal with the Plus mod to anyone looking for a great clean boost with EQ properties.
Reliability/Durability:
It's a Boss pedal, simple and durable. The mod service performed by Chad is simply some the best and cleanest soldering I've seen. He's a real ace.
Ease of Use:
Extremely easy to use. This is the Plus Mod from Monte Allums installed by the ever so capable hands of Chad Matthews, a true, bonafied circuit wizard.
Customer Support:
I've emailed Chad a few time, and his response was always quick, helpful and respectable. I would not expect the same for Boss customer service.
Overall Rating:
I play mostly original material which is a cross between rock and jazz, a little on the fusion end of the spectrum, although I hate sticking a label on it, but oh well there it is. I do not usually hand out 10's so liberally but with this pedal it was actually quite easy. If you have one of these laying around the house, or have the opportunity to pick one up real cheap on eBay, do yourself a huge favor and send it off to Chad and have him work his mojo on it, you will absolutely love it!

Guitar Center, Monte Allums Mod Kit, Installed by Chad Matthews

Features:
Sound Quality:
The stock Boss GE-7 was unusable with my set-up. It was extremely noisy when I would boost or cut any frequency. I researched this problem and found Monte Allums. I bought the kit before realizing his authorized installer was Chad Matthews. Both of these guys are fantastic to work with (see Customer Support below). My set up (in signal chain order): Jackson SL-1 Soloist (DiMarzio Tone Zone in bridge) or Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster (Vintage Noiseless PU's) - Boss Tuner, Boss GE-7 with Monte Allums Plus Mod, Ibanez Tube Screamer Reissue, Boss SD-1, Boss CH-3, MXR Carbon Copy, Lee Jackson Mr. Springgy reverb, Ernie Ball volume pedal to a Marshall 1987XL Plexi Reissue (50 Watt) into a Marshall 1960BX cabinet with 25 Watt Greenbacks. I have painstakingly tried many pedals and I don't want any excess noise or coloring of tone. For simplicity, I keep all the pedals ahead of the amp. I may try using the FX loop for the chorus, delay and reverb in the future. The Monte Allums GE-7 Mod Plus works great. It is so much more quiet and responsive than stock. I don't think it adds any additional noise to the signal path. I use it mostly for rhythms to shape my tone and tighten up the sound. The Ibanez Tube Screamer has great tone, but a large mid-range hump, so I use the Boss GE-7 to pull some of the mids and highs out of the input signal. This will now be a great pedal for shaping tone when recording.
Reliability/Durability:
I've never had any reliability problems with Boss pedals. I've been playing for over 30 years and have never met anyone who had issues with one. The white LED that the Monte Allums kit adds makes it unique and look great in the pedalboard.
Ease of Use:
The Boss GE-7 is a seven band graphic EQ in a pedal form. Works great on a pedal board. Best to use as to reduce unwanted frequencies as opposed to a boost. Has a gain as well if you want to use it to drive your amp harder. Very easy to use.
Customer Support:
After buying the kit, I asked Monte how I should handle the install. He quickly responded to my email and pointed me towards Chad Matthews, his authorized installer. Monte was friendly, helpful and responsive. I emailed Chad and he informed me to send my pedal and kit down to him. I did this on a Wednesday (PA to TN). I received my pedal back on Thursday the following week, complete and packed well. During the process, Chad and I emailed each other back and forth. He was so friendly, helpful and responsive. Both of these guys are fantastic to work with. I highly recommend them. Check out some of Monte Allums' mods on his web page and if you are going to get a kit installed, send it to Chad. You won't be sorry.
Overall Rating:
I've been playing classic rock for over 30 years and now play primarily contemporary Christian music and instrumental rock. The Monte Allums GE-7 Plus mod is a great addition to my pedalboard, making the unusable stock GE-7 now an important part of shaping my tone. The white LED is unique. I can't say enough about Monte Allums or Chad Matthews. Great product and great service!
